As of Logos 6.0.0.3700, I'm noticing that the smart-select is acting odd. I'll start dragging to the right in the middle of a word, and it will select that word when I get to its end, then the next when I touch it — and sometimes one or two beyond that, that I haven't even touched yet! Also, even when it's acting basically OK, it will select the open-parentheses of the next word if there's one there.
I've even had it go backwards, selecting words before the ones I'm selecting.
Anyone else noticing this behavior?
Smart select works not only at a word level but also phrase, clause, sentence, paragraph ... my memory may be slightly wrong on the units. If you are looking at phrases, would it include "the words I haven't touched yet"?

Thanks for responding. I don't think it covers it, though. First, it's a change I'm noticing. I use the feature a lot; I'm a big selecter. Second, I just tested it out, it went on for a while, then selected several words, then reached back a line above where I started and continued to the end of the next sentence -- which was a huge jump in both directions.
I think it's new behavior, and I think it sucks. I want to select what I want to select.
Settings -> disable.
Can you make a screen cast of the behavior?

This is how it's supposed to work. It's assumed after a certain amount of selecting that you want to select the sentence/paragraph/whatever. If you don't like it (I don't) you can disable it permanently in settings, or temporarily by holding CTRL when you select.

The big resource update made this possible.
Thanks, but I do like the smart select as it was before -- as it is in MS Word -- i.e. a word at a time. That's a time-saver for me.
If you're right, I really wish they'd give the option. You know
The description of the treatment of an open paren does sound like a bug.
In most resources it didn't work before. I haven't heard that there was a change in how it functioned only that it functioned in more resources.
Here you go, Randy Sims: http://screencast.com/t/tuFlJFyZc9
Not the worst behavior, but illustrative. I just click and drag to the right. Includes several examples.
I just want to select a word at a time, as it did previously.

That's not the way it's supposed to work. The way it works now is the same as when it was first released: words, phrases, sentences as you expand the selection. An option for word by word might be an interesting option, but it is working as designed... sort of. The video does show what looks to me like a few mistakes in its selections where the (auto) tagging isn't quite perfect.

This is how smart-selection behaves for resources that haven't been updated to include the phrase and sentence data ("not as smart" smart selection, if you will). I imagine the resource that you were using was updated recently and now has this data, which is why you are seeing the current behavior (which is by design).
I noticed in your screencast near the end that you selected into the word "commenced" and it didn't select the whole word. That is a bug (and I would like to fix it :) ). Can you send me the support information for the resource you were using in that screencast? You can get the support information by clicking the little "i" button in the top right of the resource panel and then scrolling to the bottom. It should look something like this:

Chris,
It would be really helpful to be able to disable smart select MIDWAY THROUGH SELECTING.
What normally happens with me is that I try and select part of a sentence, then realise that Logos isn't going to co-operate. It would be nice to be able to hold CTRL at that point, rather than having to deselect, press CTRL, then select again.

Not at my computer right now, but did you try holding ALT (not CTRL)?
Bradley Grainger (Faithlife):Not at my computer right now, but did you try holding ALT (not CTRL)?
Doh! . Thank you.
As Bradley noted, you should be able to press Alt (or Option on Mac) at any time to toggle between smart selection and normal selection (if you have smart selection off in Program Settings, it will turn it on and vice-versa).
Note that this is an either-or thing: you can't use smart selection and then switch to normal selection and completely preserve what was previously selected using smart selection-i.e. it will start your selection where you clicked originally, not at the leftmost point that smart selection expanded to. Also note that the selection will only change once you move your cursor (we don't update the selection when you press Alt/Option).
If that is not working or you have any other questions, please let me know. Thanks!
Hunh, who'd've thought of that? It is helpful, thanks. Still wish it were word-at-a-time only.

I have been able to reproduce the issue (when selecting into the word "commenced") and have created a case to investigate it further. We will post back here when we have an update. Thanks!

How to get logs and post them. (now tagging post-apocalyptic fiction as current affairs)
I appreciate your wanting to help, Mike. But given any of my first three posts in this thread, I don't know why you think I'd want to turn off a feature that I like rather than have the malfunction fixed.
