Questions about upgrading + a comment on Logos content

I've been using Logos since is was called Libronix, and I generally recommend it to others with certain caveats.

I'm considering upgrading to version 6 but have the following questions:

I have Logos 5.2 Silver. If I upgrade to one of the Logos 6 editions will I still be able to use the resources I already have?

Does Logos 6 offer any improvements in speed? It sometimes takes version 5.2 as long as five minutes to load!

Is there an up-charge for getting disks as opposed to downloading? If so, how much?

Finally,in case anyone at Logos cares: Logos software is so biased towards Calvinism that those who think some non-Calvinist theologians might have something worthwhile to say have to use other Bible programs for that purpose. While I realize that Logos is committed to Calvinism, the lack of resources from other theological viewpoints may eventually cost them customers. Indeed, if one of the other Bible software companies were to focus on non-Calvinistic theologies, I believe they could gather a good portion of the market.

I tried to get my questions answered via on-line chat,but gave up when no one responded after waiting more than five minutes. Hope that means that business is that good, as opposed to service being that bad.

Yes. You should continue to have access to your resources.

The new Home Page is faster and some people have had other features perform a bit faster when running 64-bit version.

There is a cost for getting media instead of downloads. It doesn't look like we have the details for media on our site yet so I'm not sure what the price is.

Yes you keep your resources, yes I noticed speed improvements, but I have a pretty high end pc as well.

yes there is a version that comes on a thumb drive, certain there is an up charge but I don't know what. Email rusty.davidson@faithlife.com he can answer those questions and get you up to speed.

as to the Calvinism comment, I think you need to re-evaluate that, they sell the works of Armenius, Wesley, and a hundred other arminian and molinistic scholars. Not to mention whatever Catholics, sda and campbelites believe.

I am not sure why you say that. I have always thought they have a wide range of resources from a fairly broad theological spectrum. Regardless of the individual theological views of the owners, developers and others ( I am not aware of what those are) I have never seen them and would be surprised if they did favor one over another in development and product decisions.

Yes. You will not lose any resources when you upgrade.

Yes, Logos 6 is faster than Logos 5. The load time depends on a number of factors (how many resources you own, hardware, etc.).

We are working on a USB option, which should be available in the next few weeks. It will add $20 to the price.

Absolutely

It might help if you shared your computer specs, but in general L6 runs about like L5 did. The speed improvements folks have seen occur when you install Logos on a 64-bit operating system.

No one has asked about that in some time. I don't know the answer.

I am really surprised to hear you say this. As a company I am sure Logos is not biased at all. Have you seen the significant Catholic offerings they have available? What of the Orthodox, Lutheran, Anglican, and Seventh Day Adventist, as well as the Baptist offerings that include many non-Calvinist resources? Certainly we can't blame Logos if Calvinists publish more than non-Calvinists, or Calvinist oriented publishers are willing to let Logos publish their works and non-Calvinist ones are not. One way or another, I have never once though Logos had a theological axe to grind.

Once you purchase your Logos Resources, you will not lose them on an upgrade.

I've not had any versions of 5 take that long to load, and 6 seems to be a bit faster.

While original Logos base packages may lean toward the Reformed area of the theological spectrum, they have released many base packages geared toward other theological leanings. Baptist, Catholic, SDA, Pentecostal, Lutheran and a defined Reformed package to name a few. You may want to check the options out to see if any fit your leanings better.

I read on the forums once that reformed folks tend to request more books, write more books, and buy more books In general than the average individual from another perspective.

Althogh i have seen some pretty epic book lists that were not reformed in the suggestions forum by some of the ladies around here. So I don't think it applies universally, just generally speaking.
