Dear Logos Team

I don't know if anyone has posted a thread exactly with this subject (didn't see) the closest I saw was "Wow".

Really have to congratulate you on the value add, analysis and semantic tools you have put into Logos 6. All the tagging work you started in L4/L5 is coming to fruition in Logos 6. The tools which help one to dig into and find new meaning and linkages in an enjoyable expository way are really — just great.

I said when Logos 5 came out that you guys should charge for application program upgrades. But now with the datasets you're doing similar — providing new functionality which provides benefit to users.

The price for the 'system' upgrade (excluding the topic of new books), where 'system' now means the various datasets and the tools which use them, is well worth it.

And I'm speaking from the perspective of someone who doesn't use Logos as a major tool of their profession, if it was one of my major tools (i.e. if I was a minister/pastor) then it would be even more of a no-brainer.

Well done!

Agreed Patrick. I think I read a post from a Logos developer who said they wrote 3x the amount of code for L6 as they wrote for L5.

What he said. And I also really appreciate the way Logos has learned and applied the lessons from the L4-5 upgrade as well.

Logos, er rather, Faithlife, thanks for the cool tools in Logos 6.  I really like the homepage re-design and the ability to sync personal books. I also noticed measurable index speed increase after I had downloaded 1.4 GB of the L6 XTDCrossgrade.  I think L6 definitely runs faster on my Windows 7 PC that uses 2009 technology.  On my Mac, the performance of L6 is comparable to L5.  As someone else had mentioned in another post, if you currently have an L5 base package and are on the fence about L6, I think a feature crossgrade at minimum is worth the price.

Can someone post what the new homepage looks like ...

Here's a sample

The sidebar on the left is fixed (customisable via the settings cog) and the area to the right scrolls vertically

So the new features / new resources - are these seriously worth the investment Graham? I've got the Silver package and wondering if these new features are worth the money - 139.00 here in Canada! :-)

Could not agree more.  Finally got all the Mac's update, now, for the only PC in the house tonight.  Most of my slow download speeds were because I was using our wifi for our customers at work and that is locked down for security reasons at the Clinic.  Once I connected my MBP to the network the speed was there to complete the download/install on the device.  Going to need some more education on utilizing the software once again and can't wait for the training DVD's that will surely come from MP Seminars.

My answer would be yes, but it would all depend on how you use Logos.

You might want to sample the Logos 6 videos to get an idea of what some of the new features are. They can be found here.

I would agree wholeheartedly too. Thank you Logos/Faithlife!

Overall, Logos 6 is more easy and intuitive to use effectively than Logos 4 or 5, in my short experience of using it in the last couple of days.  That is, it's easier to get more out of it, not only because of the new datasets, but also because even though the underlying program isn't that much different from L5, it seems that L6 has more ways to make study more productive, or access the same resources more effectively.  The incremental changes, though, as well as some great new datasets and brand new features, seem to be having more of an exponential rather than a linear positive impact on study.

On the question of whether to upgrade or not, it seems that the best value is found by upgrading (even to a lower package).  I can't comment on whether the cost of an upgrade is the sum of the crossgrade price as well as the new resources, or whether the crossgrade price is partly or wholly reduced when upgrading.  Regardless of that, the number of good resources received per $ or £ spent when upgrading always seems to me to be far better than any other promotion available for Logos resources.

The new bundles are certainly worth looking at too, possible upgrading to a lower base package with a bundle that suits your needs best, instead of upgrading to the same base package.

The only thing that I wish Logos would invent for the next release is a 'time-machine' which can stretch out 24 hours into twice the time, so that I could spend more time in the day using all the great resources and datasets available in Logos.  Smile

That's exactly what we hoped! Exponential rather than linear ... hm, sounds about right: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metcalfe's_law.

Eli, you guys have done a great job on this new version!

I've never been so excited about getting in to the Word. I am also really eager to get to use it in my ministry.

One thing that computer geeks don't always pay attention to is aesthetics. But I'll have to say that with this release (Logos 6), you guys have raised the bar for beauty in Biblical research software. It is both functional and beautiful!

Thanks!
