Somebody is going to have to make a video on the custom reading plan feature, because I'm too stupid to figure it out.

I was just going to post asking if anyone's made sense of them yet. I need some passages from a few books for class and the custom plan for other books isn't nearly as intuitive as L4/L5.

There's a post earlier in the forum on reading plans - looks like the "auto generate" isn't what it was in L5. Anyway, there are ways to create reading plans, but it looks like it's more legwork if it's not an already-made plan.

Here are some steps that might get you going.

    1. Create a new Reading Plan and select the Custom Reading Plan option
    2. Open the resource you want to read
    3. Add a session for each day's reading:
      1. Make sure the correct date is set for the session: "Add a reading session to..."
      2. Select a range of text in the resource, or enter the desired range in the navigation box at the top of the resource panel
      3. Click "Choose an open resource" in the reading plan editor. This will show a menu of options that can be added to the session. If the option has no resource abbreviation after it, the reading will open in your preferred resource for that reference.
      4. Click "Add session" to add that session to the reading plan

If you want to import readings from another reading plan, a passage list, or a clippings document, you can use the Add menu at the top of the reading plan panel. This will add sessions starting at the date displayed at "Add a reading session to..."

    Does that help?

The "Generate a Reading Plan" option should be just the same in L6 as L5 reading plans. The only differences are for Bibles you can align the readings to chapter or pericope, and plans for some books will no long generate based on page numbers (they will instead use the table of contents).

Here are some steps that might get you going.

Before I jump on this, I have a couple clarification questions.

Open the resource you want to read

    [Edit: removed...dumb question]

Add a session for each day's reading:

I've done steps 1 and 2. I assume the subpoints are necessary to get the 'Add Session' button to respond.

I discovered that I must highlight the text I want; otherwise, the page numbers in the navigation box don't stay put...they change to the current page that is showing. (I.e., I input 402-416 in the box, but as soon as I got out of the box, it changed the number to 416, the page I was on.)

When I did substep 3.3, I got a confusing list of titles-

I chose the second on the list due to context. Why are the other three, seemingly identical, choices present?

I also figured out (the hard way), that if I don't leave ALL my resources open, the ones I've previously put in the plan will not stay in the plan. They vanish somewhere.

I really think a good wiki entry, with lots of screen shots, is necessary.

That's correct. The area at the top of the panel (from "Add a reading session to" down to the "Add session" button) is the tool that is used to configure the readings for a day. Readings are added to the list there, then "Add session" adds the listed readings to the selected date. Once a session has been added, it will be shown in the list of readings in the bottom half of the panel.

After you enter 402-416 in the box, hit enter or click the arrow button. This navigates the resource to the location you have typed. Then the position will show up in the "Choose an open resource" menu.

Because the title is long, you are unable to see the text at the end that distinguishes the three choices. I'll write up a bug report for this.

The first item is a generic reference to the article that will open in any resource that contains that article. This is usually more useful in Bibles or other resources where different users of a shared reading plan might not own the same resources. This item has no text after the article name.

The third item is like the first, but will always open in that specific resource. This item has the abbreviated resource title after the article name.

The fourth item is an exact match of your selection. This item has the abbreviated resource title after the article name along with the word "(Selection)".

I am unable to see anything like this happening. I suspect I'm just not understand what you are doing. Could you provide detailed steps for me to recreate this behavior?

Probably won't get to it until tonight or tomorrow. (Real job calls.)

    Andrew -

If I wanted to create Horner's Bible Reading Plan (10 non-consecutive chapters a day for 365 days), do you have a suggestion for creating that plan other than manually entering each day's reading as a session?

    Thanks,

    Jon

    Jon,

The way I've done it in Logos 5 (and should work even better in 6 now with the divisions by chapter) is to create 10 different reading plans, one for each of the 10 groups.  While this seems like a pain, it does have advantages.  Since each group repeats at different intervals, this allows you to start each one over as it completes, rather than having to set up a custom plan several years out into the future.
