SUGG: create shortcuts for hiding all toolbars, menu, etc

When you think about it, Logos toolbar, menu bar, resource toolbar, locator bar, etc. all take about 15% of vertical real estate of the screen. With the introduction of a simple 1 key stroke, users can toggle all these various bars.

For example, turn this:

into this

by simply pressing `(key before 1) for example.

This would be very effective for “reading mode” when one does not need command window or various shortcut icons, etc.

when "`" is pressed the first time, EVERYTHING, but the content disappears,

press "`" again, and you get the locator bar ,

press "`" again and you get ,

press "`" again and you get .

What do you think?

Oh, sorry. I forgot that you're using a Mac. So the shortcut for reading view on the Mac is Shift-Command-F. Try that. It should eliminate all extraneous stuff except for the text and maximize it on the screen for you. At least that's how reading view works on Windows. I take it that you are looking for something different from the existing Reading View, which places the focus on one resource. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you want the entire Logos work area to have the option to turn off the toolbars. I think that's a great suggestion, especially for users on small screen laptops.

At the very least, Logos could reduce the vertical size of the main toolbar without much difficulty.

We can turn off the locator bar (which I do), and I would be for an option to turn off the resource tool bar.

But how would it work if you turned off the resource tab bar? Wouldn't that limit you to one resource per panel unless you turn it one to switch resources? (Unless, perhaps, you switched resources with a keyboard shortcut)

I don't know if I like the idea of a single shortcut key that cycles through the different modes. I think I would like a keyboard shortcut for each section, like we have with the locator bar.

All in all, a great idea, I think.

OK, the wiki is wrong then. I'm not qualified to update the Mac keyboard shortcuts page of the wiki because I don't have the Mac version. There might have been other changes. Best for someone who has a Mac to do a thorough review and update of this page and make it for Logos 6 not Logos 4. Or keep the Logos 4 one and add a new one for Logos 6.

This is exactly we we need a SIMPLE 1 key shortcut that is not taken by other programs/ OS. The polish/ ease of use of Logos is horrendous compared with Adobe Lightroom for example (Rosie should agree)

It would work great. One resource per panel would be visible. Most of the time you will know what resources share the same panel and you would then select panel and use left/right arrows to select the needed resource.

Just to be clear, the Shift-Command-F shortcut wasn't changed because of a conflict, but because it was repurposed for Inline Search.

Most of the time you will know what resources share the same panel and you would then select panel and use left/right arrows to select the needed resource.

Okay, I can see that working. The right/left arrow keys would have to be repurposed (they're tied to parallel resources right now), but I think that would be better than the Control-Tab method that is in place now.

The reason I like the idea of individual shortcuts to turn off/on the different toolbars is so that you can have different configurations of toolbars that are on or off. Like maybe I would want the Main Toolbar off, the Locator bar on, the Resource toolbar off, and the Tab bar on. Or some other configuration. Cycling through the toolbars with one key only allows one order of toolbars that are on/off.

But like I said above, I really think this is a great idea you have, and one that would really benefit users with small screens. I would use it even on my 27" iMac—it would reduce the clutter and allow me to focus better.

what would be the workflow that would require such complexity? If you NEED a lot of toolbars - go ahead and use the full toolbar set (one toolbar on would not make a difference). But your suggestion immensely complicates things: now we need to memorize/program 4 different shortcuts instead of 1.

Again, this is bad design. Why do we need "regular search - Cmnd-F" when we got inline search? Now it is even less intuitive to search, because I have to press Shift - BAD DESIGN!
