Woot! It's HERE! C.S. Lewis Collection!!!!

https://www.logos.com/product/49027/the-cs-lewis-collection
I wasted no time:
Now let's see how long it takes to get over the top! I know some people would probably rather start with a smaller cheaper collection, so it might take longer than I would have guessed otherwise. But I think it'll take less than a week anyway.

Disappointing the Chronicles of Narnia are not in the collection but good to see the space trilogy did make it.
So what else do other see as missing they would like to see in the future from C.S. Lewis ?

I'm in also. I agree that it would be good to have Narnia also, but I am very excited about this collection.

I posted my complete list of what I see missing that I'd like to have eventually over on another thread. I'll replicate it here. I have all of these in print. So it would be nice to be able to access them digitally in Logos.
- The Chronicles of Narnia
- Letters to Malcolm: Chiefly on Prayer
- Reflections on the Psalms
- The Four Loves
- Till We Have Faces
- Surprised by Joy
- A Preface to Paradise Lost
- Letters to Children (though they are all no doubt included in the three volumes of all his letters, it's nice having the ones to children selected out into a separate volume)
- The Dark Tower and Other Stories
- Poems
- Narrative Poems
- Boxen (childhood chronicles written by him with his brother Warren H. Lewis)
And more collections of his essays (though there is no doubt some overlap among all of these and the ones they already have):

The Four Loves
Surprised by Joy
Reflections on the Psalms
Seem to me to be the most glaring omissions, (beyond Narnia of course).

But let's not neglect what all is in the collection!

I agree that those three are the biggies, but I'd also include this one:
It is one of the best treatments of prayer I've ever read. I have made it into a PB for my own use, and it's out of copyright in Canada so if any of you are living in Canada and would like the .docx file for it, I can send it to you. Unfortunately I can't post it publicly though, because it would be available in the US that way, and it's not yet free of copyright there.

I'm guessing that if they offered a small $59 collection with Mere Christianity, Screwtape, Great Divorce, etc., it would fund very quickly, leaving some of the collections of letters, essays, languishing in pre-order limbo -- maybe forever. If this big, expensive, collection is the way that the essays and everything can make it into Logos, then so be it.
0 -
It's already almost up to 25% on the pre-orders. I think they're going to have to trouble getting this into production soon.

The books are already available digitally. Logos just needs to tag them. There's no reason this needs pre-pub other than the publicity and big bucks for a big collection.

I still never understand why some items are pre-pub and others community pricing ... I would love to have this collection but just cannot do $300 ...

C.S. Lewis's books are in the public domain for me (Canada) so I would love to see them on community pricing! rofl

If you are referring to the C.S. Lewis Collection the answer is no. The books are still under copyright in the USA so Logos starts it as a Pre-Pub.

Sadly like most things Zondervan IMO overpriced for content.. especially these which don't require a huge amount of tagging as monograph

I'm debating this (with myself, of course!). On the one hand, though I have many of these works in print form (as we all probably do), the idea of having them in Logos is very appealing. On the other hand, if you go to Amazon and price these works as Kindle books, leaving out the few you may not be interested in, you could save enough to also add Narnia and The Four Loves, for example. Kudos to Faithlife for making CS Lewis available. However, my question is "how will I use the books?" If I only want to read them in digital format, I have other options. But, if I want to have them available as resources for various Logos searches, then this is the time to get in on this deal. Hmmm.....

Of course this debate could go on about all the resources in your library. If you only ever read your Logos library and don't use it for research then you will not get the full benefit. As you know, the real power of Logos is using its many sophisticated research tools. One could make a collection of books written by C. S. Lewis and use that to search for what he said about a topic. Perhaps another collection could be made for books about him.
My philosophy is that I never know how I might use in it the future but the options to do powerful searches and research will only be there if I own the resources.

The only advantage of CSL collection in Logos for me (versus having them in Kindle format) is to collect quotes

BTW, I don't maintain this page, others do. But I do participate on it. It's a great place for CRC pastors (see link above to decipher the acronym) to vent, ask for advice, be off topic, etc. (A few other avid Logos users post Logos links and stuff there.)

Wow, it's at about 80% now, just a couple of hours after you posted that. I now bet it will go over the top before the weekend is over, and probably by the end of today, or even sooner. One of the fastest ever. I was thinking it would take a week because of the large size and cost of the collection, but clearly that isn't an impediment to real Lewis fans.

I am looking forward to these resources.
I have never read a book by C. S. Lewis. I have only listened to the complete works of Narnia in audiobook format.

Almost the same here; listened to the Chronicles (I loved (!) them and want to go back and read the text), but I've also read Mere Christianity (from this volume). Some time ago I bought his three collections of letters (Kindle format) but haven't done anything with them yet.

Now I am in too. I have many of the works listed already in my personal print library, but as a retired English teacher I see material pertaining to works about literature that I ought to read that are not in my print collection.
Now if I could only interest enough of you to get excited about some important works on Community Pricing (the recently listed works of J. R. Graves, the extensive collection I've tried to encourage more interest in on baptism): if an English teacher sees the extreme value and relevance of this CP material, some of you pastors and would-be theologians ought to get with it and see what I see and push these into production.
C. S. Lewis was most helpful for me in the area of apologetics, starting with his Mere Christianity. The CP material I reference is likewise helpful. That even a retired English teacher might know a tiny bit about the Bible ought to be evidenced by the fact that I edited and compiled the extensive cross references in the work under my name, The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge, a volume that has far more answers to Bible questions and help to understanding all of Scripture than most owners of this work have any idea about. It is available in Logos Software.

You'd have to think that it was related to some negotiations (presumably tough) with the publisher. I hope that the huge response to this first C. S. Lewis offering might help to get the Narnia books into Logos now. Also, after seeing how things like the Moody books, Ott's book from the Catholic libraries, the NIV 84, etc. can be abruptly removed from the store as contractual agreements change, I am highly motivated to add as much C. S. Lewis to my library as possible, while it is possible.

Yes, smart move. With the history of such tight controls on his publications by C.S. Lewis's estate, and an heir (his stepson) still living, there's no telling what could change at any time.
EDIT:

The Narnia books are available in other digital formats (Nook and Kindle, multiple editions, some less than $1 per volume!), so I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Logos can get them. Because they've been sold for film rights, these books probably have a different level of contract negotiation than his other writings.

Til We Have Faces is missing too (in addition to the other missing works previously mentioned), and that's probably not a victim of film rights. So hopefully, this is just the first collection, and we will get a second collection with Til We Have Faces, Surprised by Joy, Letters to Malcolm, The Four Loves, Reflections on the Psalms, and the Chronicles of Narnia.
Sadly I can't afford this collection at this time. I'm hoping everything will be available individually by next Christmas.

I would hope they'd do some sub-bundles too, like the Classics (Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, The Great Divorce, The Abolition of Man, A Grief Observed, Miracles, Weight of Glory, The Problem of Pain), the Space Trilogy, Essay collections, Literary Criticism, Letters, and Miscellaneous. If Narnia and Till We Have Faces get added, then they could do a bundle of his Fiction which would include those and the Space Trilogy.
Two more I realized that are missing which I have in print are:
- All My Road Before Me: The Diary of C.S. Lewis 1922-1927.
- C.S. Lewis: Essay Collection & Other Short Pieces
And more Lewisiana from my shelves:
- C. S. Lewis: A Companion & Guide by Walter Hooper (HarperSanFrancisco, 1996)
- The C.S. Lewis Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide to His Life, Thought, and Writings by Colin Duriez (Baker, 1990)
- The Christian World of C. S. Lewis by Clyde Kilby (Eerdmans, 1995)
- C.S. Lewis at the Breakfast Table and other Reminiscences edited by James T. Como (Macmillan, 1979)
- Planets in Peril: A Critical Study of C.S. Lewis's Ransom Trilogy by David C. Downing (UMass Press, 1995)
- The Shadow-Lands of C.S. Lewis: The Man Behind the Movie: Selections from the Writings of C.S. Lewis with an Introduction by Peter Kreeft (Ignatius, 1994)
- Touring C.S. Lewis' Ireland & England by Perry C. Bramlett (Smith & Helwys, 1998)
- Reading the Classics with C.S. Lewis edited by Thomas L. Martin (Baker, 2001)
- A Guide Through C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy by Martha Sammons (Cornerstone, 1980)
- A Far-Off Country: A Guide to C.S. Lewis's Fantasy Fiction (University Press of America, 2000)
- From Narnia to A Space Odyssey: The War of Ideas Between Arthur C. Clarke and C.S. Lewis (iBooks/Simon & Schuster, 2003)

Wow! I'd really like to see individual titles for sale. The Collection's price of nearly $300 is a bit much to cough up.
