Topic Guide Question - what drives the report

We were asked about a Topic Guide report in an other thread.
It was sugessted that we ask for help here.
I tried the Topic Guide using the predefined selection of: Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ
I Added Collections [[using the add down arrow]]
Then at the end of Collections I clicked on Search all resources
It gave me a search string of : [[into a normal search of basic, all text, all resources]]
"""heading:"Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ" OR heading:"Christmas Story" OR heading:"Virgin Birth" OR heading:"Virgin Birth of Jesus" OR heading:"Virgin Conception""""
If there is no HEADING with in the resource that matches it will not show.
Question: Are Topics hard wired that is pre-looked up within some resources?
If that is true than we will only find the pre-looked up hits and not all possible hits in our library.
Cross posting the reply we received else where -
[[Thanks for the help]]MJ. Smith said:This discussion really is not SDA specific so should be in the Logos 6 forums if you want quick attention. It is also better to create a new thread for a new question - the OP may get lost in your question/answer string. Topics are tags that associate a given place in the resource with a particular pre-defined topic. This allows alternate spelling and synonyms to be picked up which a plain search would not. In Logos 6 we have the ability to add our own topic tags (community tags). Only resources tagged with topic tags will be picked up - the list of such resources continues to grow but its primarily reference works. I'm headed out the door but Headings should have nothing to do with it and the Collection section I would expect to work off a standard search. I hope someone follows up.

If that is true than we will only find the pre-looked up hits and not all possible hits in our library. The main section of the topic guide is limited to resources that support the Logos Controlled Vocabulary. The collections section is only limited by the collection you choose.

Mark,
Thanks for that tip. Is there a central file that will explain how each of the guides, search tools, etc. get their results? I would feel much more confident in selecting which tool to use knowing how they worked and what they were searching.

Nothing exists centrally. The main sections will all have a thread or two which will contain a definitive answer somewhere.
