Restrict search by resource type

I know this is a silly basic question but I cannot seem to find the answer.

It seems in L5 I was able to do a search and restrict the search by the type of resource, such as: Christ ANDNOT type:commentary".

However, I get boat loads of commentaries returned. Am I doing something wrong? Using the wrong parameters?

I feel really silly even asking as this seems so basic.

Thanks

You couldn't do a search like that in L5.

You could however (and still can) build a collection that includes everything but your commentaries, using the rule * ANDNOT type:commentary, and then search within that. This is how you would accomplish what you're trying to do.

FYI, for clarity you could and still can do a Library search using "ANDNOT type:commentary".

    For instance: "title:bible ANDNOT type:bible".

Michael, after seeing Anthony's post I realize I might have misunderstood your question. If you're typing that search in the Library find box and getting lots of commentaries, make sure you have no space after the colon after type: because if you do have a space, Logos will interpret it as two separate words and will thus look for books that have "Christ" and "commentary" in their metadata but not "type".

It has been raised that the requirement that there be no space after the colon causes users to make this mistake too often and Logos should reconsider it, and they're thinking about that.

Thanks, Rosie. You understood my question correctly. It just seems odd that in all the search prowess of Logos that you cannot do such a thing in a search when you can do it elsewhere. Oh, well. Thanks for the advices on the Collection thing. I guess I will go that route.

One more thing; Is is possible to create a collection using the library type "Last Updated" and specify a date range?

Oh, I gave you some misinformation. You CAN limit the search to everything but commentaries without making a collection. Starting with L5 you can make a pseudo collection on the fly by typing that collection rule into the "Search in" find box on the Search Tab. I typed * ANDNOT type:commentary (and it figured out that I had 12,815 resources that match that criterion):

    Unfortunately not.

Does ANDNOT type:"Bible commentary" give you what you want? The quotation marks are required.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

This is not currently possible in Logos 6 but may be added in a future release.

That would be really awesome, Bradley. I've asked for this before, and I know others have wanted it too (here, here, here, here).
