HarperCollins (Zondervan) - Dynamic Pricing on the way??

I want to share a response I received on Thursday from HarperCollins Christian Publishing.  It is a reply to an email that I had recently sent them regarding their approach to dynamic pricing of their Zondervan / Zondervan Academic resources with Faithlife/Logos.  The response sounds very promising to me as it indicates that the implementation of dynamic pricing is actively being worked on by both parties.

Thank you for contacting HarperCollins Christian Publishing and for your feedback.  I have passed your email on to the appropriate person for review.  Here is the response I have received back.

We are hoping to offer this in the future and are discussing how to set it up with Logos.  Nothing official to announce right now, but as soon as it is available, it will be announced on the blogs of Logos.com and ZondervanAcademic.com.

In case you are interested, here is the original email I sent to them...

Hello,

I have purchased a considerable number of Zondervan titles through Logos/Faitthlife. I am wondering about your policy/position restricting dynamic pricing for bundles of resources that you offer in conjunction with Faithlife/Logos. Specifically, there are a number of Zondervan bundles/collections that I would love to purchase; however, since there is no dynamic pricing for the resources I have already purchased that are part of the bundle/collection, I simply will not purchase these larger sets. It makes no sense to pay twice for a book! So that you are aware, I have spent (or have on a payment plan) in excess of $55,000 with Logos resources. I plan on spending much more over time, but am extremely reluctant to purchase Zondervan titles because if I do and there is a larger bundle/collection offered with them in the future, I know that my investment will not be reflected since you do not allow for dynamic pricing.

Examples are the "Zondervan Bible Reference Bundle 2 (44 vols.)" for $910 and the "Zondervan Bible Reference Bundle (87 vols.)" for $2,025. I have a significant number of the resources in both of these packages, but since I am not offered dynamic pricing for the content I already own, I simply will not purchase these and other Zondervan bundles. That would be incredibly foolish stewardship of my finances, as much as I may want to purchase these and a number of other smaller Zondervan bundles.

As you may or may not be aware, other publishing companies such as Eerdmans and Baker both allow Faithlife/Logos to offer dynamic pricing for bundles/collections of resources for which a customer has previously purchased some of the titles in the bundle/collection. So, as you might surmise, I spend considerably more money on titles from these and other publishers that honour my previous purchases.

I would very much like your feedback and whether you are entertaining any change to your dynamic pricing policy in effect with Logos/Faithlife. I can frankly say that you are losing out on thousands of dollars of purchases from me as a result of not allowing a dynamic pricing policy to be in effect.

Regards,

Wayne Clarke
