Time sensitivity is probably a big part of it, Mike. My weekly Sabbath School videos had a short shelf life - the immediate usefulness disappeared if not watched by the end of the week... I've also used social media, email and my personal network to promote the videos.

There will still be the trickle of those with slightly defective memories refreshing minds in books that you recommended and odd techniques etc!!

One thing that I was especially 'chuffed' with this week was your visual filter that I created from your  6 June video for highlighting imperatives. This week Jon Paulien in the Pine Knowle  SS discussion  was pointing out that in Matt. 28:19 that the emphasis in the Greek was in 'making disciples' not on 'Go'.

Using the visual filter had already highlighted that (literally) for us mono-linguists! As you said 'cool'. Little things like that can really make a difference.

Thanks so much for the time & effort that you put into the videos.

I may have missed a point but in order to 'make disciples' don't you have to 'go'?

I appreciated your 'rant' at the beginning of your video. A wake up call for all members both paid and lay.

You mean the part about Adventist not studying, and resting on their laurels? I reminded my board of this at the last board meeting.

I take your point David, (and don't think that we are really disagreeing) but if I am being pedantic my answer is  "No, not really". You can make disciples everywhere as long as you can communicate with the world outside your head. A parent should be making disciples of their own children of course. I think that the verse is really saying "Where ever you go, wherever you happen to be, make disciples of people so they become followers of Jesus Christ.". We don't have to go somewhere specific to disciple/make disciples. It is the disciplining that is part of a changed life. I guess I should really be chatting about this on the SS faithlife group.Sad

I bet that went down well - the phrase 'Lead Balloon' comes to mind!!

Yes I was thinking of that, together with the comments on boring SS lessons and boring sermons. Every single one of us was implicated. If members study more they will actually become better workers/deacons/elders in the churches releasing some time for the minister to put more time into the sermon preparation rather than spending it chasing his/her tail around three churches while doing things that could have been done at least as well by the membership. Logos makes it so much easier to achieve much more out of the same amount of time - if we give it the chance.

If you look at the Greek in this passage (Matt 28:19-20), you will see that there are 4 main verbs: to go, to make disciples, to baptize, and to teach. The only verb in the imperative (a command) is the verb for making disciples. The other three are participles, which seem to have a modifying purpose, in relation to the main verb which is to make disciples.

So this passage is telling us that the command from Christ is to make disciples. And how we do that involves going, teaching, and baptizing.

Thanks for the lesson on the Greek.
