Read Aloud - Using Other Voices in Windows 7 - Solution Found

For those who are running Logos 4 on Windows 7 and do not like the default Microsoft Anna voice, I finally found a way to select and use other voices (e.g. Paul and Kate from Neospeech / Nextup):

Run C:\Windows\sysWOW64\speech\SpeechUX\SAPI.cpl

This brings up a window that looks just like the Text to Speech window in Control Panel, except that your third-party vendor's voices will also show up there and can be selected as Windows 7's default voice.  You will have to restart Logos 4 for the new voice to take effect.

Can someone else test to see if it works for you also?  If so, we should add this to the Wiki.

[Edit: I have 64-bit Windows 7.  Not sure if this is also a problem for 32-bit.]

so you bought the other voices or how did you get them from the neospeech product?

I bought these 2 Neospeech voices from Nextup a couple years ago, to use with Logos 3 beta read aloud feature.

It looks like Nextup is no longer selling Neospeech voices.

    Peter,

I no longer have any additional voices installed, but the dialog does come up.

    Thanks for finding this one.

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

    Kevin,

I read your article in MacWorld. Loved it I think it's great that you're showing how a pastor's day-to-day activities shows his passion for the Lord in addition to using technology to reach other people. I think the stigma that goes with being a Christian who doesn't understand technology is slowly going away. As the apostle Paul who walk the roads that the Romans built so as to pastor that uses the technology of his day to spread the word. Amen brother!
