There are three major differences between the UMC RCL of The Book of Worship and the standard RCL

  • the Psalter is based on The Common Lectionary (1983) rather than the Revised Common Lectionary primarily to avoid reprinting the hymnal containing the psalter.
  • differences in verses within a pericope or occasionally the pericope itself are the result of using draft of the RCL rather than the final RCL because of timing issues to bring the lectionary in front of the General Conference
  • the decision was made to include only the semi-continuous option for Ordinary Time between Pentecost and Advent. The complementary option is omitted.
