What is the Multiple Resources panel for?

I've been playing with this new feature but I feel like I'm missing something — what's the advantage of having one Multiple Resources panel with 3 bibles in it, versus 3 bibles in their own panels in a link set? There are limitations in that some functions only happen on the host resource, are there (or will there be) things that you can only do with a Multiple Resources panel that couldn't be done with linked panels?

I see it as a dynamic text comparison tools. The advantage (not replacement) of it over having multiple Bibles open with link sets is that it is very quick and easy. Faithlife will probably fine tune it, but it looks good to me so far.

The multi-resource view has a couple advantages over linked panels that I can think of off the top of my head:

Linked panels are bi-directional. Multi-resource view only scrolls the secondary resources when the primary resources are scrolled, not the other way around. Depending on your work flow, this can be very useful.
Secondary resources that don't contain content for the current position are hidden. This means you can have an English Bible, and Hebrew Bible, and a Greek Bible in the same window, but only two will be visible at a time, with the Hebrew and Greek appearing as needed. This can be a nice space savings.
Inline search contexts and results apply sympathetically across all the resources in your view. To duplicate this with linked panels, you'd have to run the same search in each linked panel.
Reverse Interlinear ribbon comes from the primary resource, but will generate highlights and support clicking from the secondary resources as possible.

Some of the mentioned functionality on points 3 and 4 is limited in Beta 2, but should be improved in Beta 3.

To echo what Andrew said, the main aim is to enable more seamless searching, comparison, and analysis of multiple versions/translations of a work, particularly the Bible.

Panel linking keeps all resources at the same location, but doesn't allow you to filter all resources to the same set of results for quick and easy comparison. Nor does it highlight search results in all linked resources. The main two benefits of multiple resources in the same panel are the abilities to have (1) multiple Bibles filtered to the same set of results and (2) search results highlighted in all resources.

I noticed that Sympathetic highlighting does not (yet?) work in the multiple resource view. I have several bibles open and only the primary shows the selection.

Is sympathetic highlighting coming?

Yes, it is. Support for Visual Filters in secondary resources is currently in progress.

I'm new to the feature, and looking forward to trying it out.

I appreciate the various enhancements for searching, etc. For now, my question is much more concerned with simply mechanics and performance. Have users found a difference in speed (and general usability) between the two options? Certainly I find having 20 linked windows a little sluggish; are there better options now available with the multiple resources feature (e.g. four windows with five resources each)?

(Yes, I'm about to try this all out for myself. I'm just curious about others' discoveries and preferences.)
