I would love to have the 33 volumes of this complete set available for my Logos library. Is anyone else interested?

Welcome to the Forums!

I know several users that are interested, and, in fact, Logos once offered the resource. But because of publisher disagreements it was pulled. We can only hope it will pop up in the future.

It seems that just about everyone wants this set off commentaries, including me. It is absolute absurdity that Faithlife and Moody cannot work out something to get this set of commentries here on LOGOS or VYRSO. Thank God I have the HARDBACK COPIES.

NOT Vyrso! Commentaries in Vyrso are about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.

I have the MacArthur set in Logos. Well, all but the last three or four volumes...I had the second half of Luke on pre-pub when they pulled them, and it disappeared, along with my opportunity to complete the set.

A pox on the house of whoever is responsible for this misdeed!

My thanks to the various MVPs. Without them Logos would have died early. They were the only real help available.

If I could have them, I wouldn't care if they were vyrso. Logos titles have much better tagging... BUT MacArthur isn't one to cite his sources so thats fine by me.

IF we could get them in vyrso, I would be tickled to death to have them.

No No No! Kenute with the rate you report typos (thank you), you would not be tickled to death you would be frustrated to death.

They would be an absolute disaster in Vyrso format...resources in Vyrso format now that contain a of bible references are hit and miss because there is no quality control over them.  If the author does not put the reference in full then there is no guarantee that the link create will be to the correct passage.

As an example A Message of the New Testament is a classic case.  I have put the lookup tool on the right hand side of the screen shot to highlight the extent of how these resources go wrong when they are not full Logos resources. This is from the chapter on Ephesians. Every reference in this book part of the book refers Genesis to pull up the verses instead of Ephesians despite the fact it is clear the author is referring to Ephesians not Genesis.

Why is this happening - because in the surface text the references are only referred to by the chapter and verse or just the verse.  The author relies on the reader taking the context of the reference to know he is taking about Ephesians when he refers to these verses.  So why is Logos pulling out the references from Genesis instead of Ephesians - because Vyrso resources are automatically tagged and the last time a reference to  a bible book was mentioned was in a footnote at the end of the previous chapter  and it was to Genesis and so Vyrso no quality control whatsoever process of tagging it is assuming until it comes across another bible book name all these references cited without a bible book name are referring to Genesis.

Commentaries and other resources that quote scripture references heavily are disasters waiting to happen...and there are all the other issues in that they won't behave as commentaries in tools like passage guide etc - you will have to add them to a non-index commentaries search collection .  And because of what I have said the results you get from this and other searches on these resources would be so hit an miss you probably may as well not bother.

And Kenute it would not matter how many times you submitted typos on these - Logos will do nothing about it.

fwiw I suspect rather than re-create the wheel they would release the files they have already made for Logos in Vyrso.

Perfect? Nope. Would Logos versions be better? Yep.

But at this point I'd take them warts and all vs not having them.

Disciple of Christ (doc):
No No No! Kenute

...and you didn't even mention the part about them not tracking with your bible...you have to manually scroll both resources.

Plus, if they were in Vyrso, that could be used as an excuse not to continue to pursue them in Logos.

That would be bad.

Hi Disciple of Christ (doc) I understand what you are talking about. Trust me, I have had issues like this on VYRSO. Sometimes it can be terrible.

I would love to see this set of commentaries in LOGOS, but how long have we been waiting here now. and why hasn't LOGOS given us a full explanation as to what happened, and why they cannot work out a deal with MOODY? They owe it to us, their faithful customers, a real good explanation.

Also, it's not that they cannot work out a deal with MOODY; there as to be some issue between the two of them. Let them solve the issue; and get John MacArthur's Commentaries back here on LOGOS.

Apparently they are not listening to us, their faithful customers; or we would have had a full explanation as to why this happened, and also an explanation as to what is being done about it.

Logos does not owe us any explanation. Sometimes negotiations are so sensitive that publicizing them is detrimental to the success. I would rather just see success and the return of the commentaries than hear the details.

I agree with you Super.Tramp to a certain extent, but not all the way. Again, I am sure that the commentaries could have been here on LOGOS long time, if the 2 companies would have come to an agreement; and don't tell me they can't, because they could.

These commentaries are available in other BIBLE SOFTWARE COMPANIES.

I would love to see them come to an agreement but I agree with Super.Tramp that we are not owed any explanation Just becasuse I want to know in order to make sense of why I am not getting what I want -  Moody resources in Logos - does not oblige Logos or Moody to explain to me their business relationship as it stands at this point in time.

Once we thought we would never have Zondervan in Logos format, we thought we would never have C.S.Lewis in Logos format but we do now, and so I am trusting we can see Moody back in the Logos stable of publishing partners one day - but for now let's leave those business negotiations to be dealt with by the men and women who are in a position to do so and instead pray for them and the situation.

Maybe but not all of the commentaries had been released at that point in time so those files don't exist for every volume of the set.

I'll live with it, if they would make them available.

To those asking for clarification on the breakdown of relations between FL and Moody, the scuttlebutt (and we all know what thats worth) is that FL wanted to pay less money than Moody wanted per title during contract re-negotiation.

But as has been said, and will likely be said again - we don't really know and our knowing may not be helpful to repairing the relationship. I'd be content not knowing as long as those titles come back. Even if I can only get MacArthur in Vyrso I'd be happy to have them.

You're right and I wish they would.

I have the volumes that were available at the time of the split but I want to complete the set. This set has to be one of the most requested in Logos.
