Placing resources on an external hard drive?

I am running Logos 5 on a MacBook Air. My hard drive is only 128gb, so I would really love to free up the space that the resource library currently occupies. Is there any way to move my library to an external hard drive?

Hello Jason and welcome to the forums!
You can find instructions for doing installing Logos on an external drive here: https://wiki.logos.com/Install_in_different_folder_or_drive#Relocate_your_folder_with_Resources.2c_Indexes.2c_.2e.2e.2e
Bear in mind that, depending on what kind of external drive you use, that Logos will suffer a performance hit.
Also, you can upgrade to the free Logos 6 engine. Just download it from here: https://www.logos.com/install

Thanks for responding! I know my way around a computer fairly well, but the instructions in that link seem a bit over my head.
Where do I find "New Volume" to install or connect? If I'm asking that question, is this going to be something I will be unable to do? Thanks.

New Volume refers to the name of your external drive or partition that you want to put your resources on. Read through the instructions and see if everything makes sense. If something doesn't, feel free to ask more questions.

OK thanks. I have copied the folder "LOGOS4" from my library. I have pasted it in my external drive. I have opened Terminal, but not sure what to do while in there. Numbers 2 & 3 under step E are confusing.

My personal opinion? Using the terminal is for "advanced users only" and you can really mess things up if you don't know what you are doing. Is there anything else you can move to the external hard drive?

Okay, at this point, you can follow Alabama's advice and put the Logos4 folder back where it was (if you did anything to it), with no harm done. If you can find other things to move, like music or pictures to make room on your drive, that would be better anyway. Like I said above, you will suffer a performance hit moving the Logos Resources to an External Drive.
But if you want to progress forward, I suggest that you read up on symbolic links, like from here: http://osxdaily.com/2015/08/06/make-symbolic-links-command-line-mac-os-x/
Then you should practice with a dummy folder until you understand how it works.
Note, with Photos and iTunes, all you have to do is Quit Photos or iTunes, move the Photos or iTunes directory, then press Option when you click the icon to start Photos or iTunes. You'll be asked to locate the directory and you'll be done.

Thanks guys. I am definitely not an advanced user. Although I would like to figure this out, I would be open to moving iTunes and iPhoto on the external, too. I will follow your instructions here and see what happens. I'd rather not do any damage! I really thought it would be a much easier solution.

i actually use iMovie quite a bit, and am afraid it eats up my space with bits of video i import. i try to delete it back off when i'm done, but for some reason it seems my space gets smaller and smaller. can i move that directory over the external the same way as iTunes and photos? thanks!
