1. In using the Sermon section of the Guide it is important to understand precisely what the criteria for selection are. First a review of the attributes of a Sermon Label:

  • {Label Sermon} — Populates the "Sermons" section of Passage Guides
  • Creator
  • Title
  • Subtitle
  • Series
  • References
  • Date
  • Liturgical Date

Note that only attributes with values show on mouse over.

First, note that the Sermons selected for the Topic Guide on <Concept Creation> is identical to the Sermons selected for the Sermon Starter Guide on <PreachingTheme Creation>

2. Notice that the results mix titles and references related to creation proper with title and references related to the "new creation / recreation' or minor references to creation.

3. The tagging is incomplete as illustrated by only part of Basil's series on the Creationas given in Genesis 1:1-2:3 appears in the results. In addition the first sermon of the series appears from a different source than the remainder ... with an inconsistency in the creator name and a difference in title. The remaining sermons all appear twice because I have both the Protestant and the Catholic versions of Schaff.

4. Here is the evidence that the first Basil sermon is, in fact the same as the first Basil of Caesarea sermon

5. If I were to run a Search on the Sermon Label with a scripture reference of Gn 1:1-2:3 I get a list of sermons with some overlap but a distinct list in its own right. Unfortunately we cannot save as a Bibliography and run merge procedures as we do for Passage Lists. If we could we could build lists with considerably more accuracy for our particular concerns.

6. However, I can duplicate the Guides results but simply looking for the word "Creation" in the sermon title - which explains the results we noted in point 2.

7. We can create sermon labels for untagged resources and they will process correctly. Unfortunately we cannot add missing data to the Logos labels.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."
