TIP of the day: Putting a search together: Jesus speaking to God the Father in the Passion Narrative

1. Step 1: create a saved Passage Range or a Passage List that contains the references for the four Passion Narratives:
2. Step 2: Review Speaker/Addressee Search arguments in Help:
Logos 6 Help said:
Speaker/Addressee
The Speaker and Addressee search extensions search information in the Reported Speech and Addressees in Reported Speech datasets for who is speaking and who is being spoken to. The content of both extension terms is a Person data type reference or (rarely) a Thing data type reference. For example:
• {Speaker <Person God>} — find all places where reported speech is attributed to God
• {Addressee <Person God>} — find reported speech marked as directed toward God
• {Addressee <Thing Mountain>} — where mountains are spoken to
Logos 6 Help (Bellingham, WA: Faithlife, 2015).
3. Step 3: In this type of search, I find it useful to bulit up the search piece by piece. So first, I search for everytime in the Passion Narratives that Jesus speaks with the Search argument {Speaker <Person Jesus>}.
4. Step 4. Since the results look good I add the search term to search for the addressee. Remember that a simple space between to two search terms means both must be present. So now I have a search for {Speaker <Person Jesus>} {Addressee <Person God>}
Which is all very nice for Logos Now users ... but how does everyone else get the results?
You could use a clause search to find where Jesus speaks subject:Jesus verb-sense:to say (express) and manually identify the places where the addressee is God ... but I cannot find even in the abstract a way to narrow it down to addressee God. The search argument is subject:Jesus verb-sense:to say (express) although there may be other verb senses I should request.
Or one can go with a very basic search of all of the words - the person Jesus, said, the person God i.e. a search argument of <Person Jesus> said <Person God>
Note this has a number of unwanted hits but provides a small number to sort through.

Thanks MJ

And Logos Now users could also use the "Speaking to God" interactive
(Some issues were fixed in 6.11 beta 3 so this won't be available to all Logos Now users as yet)

Thanks - I'd not remembered that. Perhaps others will also have additional options.

One for inconsistency:
{Speaker <Person Jesus>} {Addressee <Person God>} WITHIN {Section <PreachingTheme = Jesus: Passion>}
The passages tagged for the Preaching Theme are restricted compared to the Interactive and Martha's passage list.
