Inspired by our good neighbors to the south, I was wondering if there is any interest in a L4 users group for the Hampton Roads or Richmond area? Since I split the middle, I would be willing to drive to either place.
In Christ,
Dave
+1 from Smithfield, VA! [Y]
Count me in if the meeting day does not conflict with my teaching at Bible College. I live in Virginia Beach.
Clarksville Va. I'll sure try to make it
I'm just outside Petersburg ... Not to raise hopes or anything[:P], but there might be a slim chance that I can host it where I teach if the crowd is not too overwhelming. I can handle up to 15 in my classroom easily. I'm already overwhelmed with my teaching schedule so something like this would be a form of relaxation! Not to mention that I could invite selected students to see all of us go "wow! golly! gee whiz!" heheheh.....
It would be on the only Saturday that I'm free on whichever month we decide to meet. {{{gasp! don't folks know that Saturdays are for sleeping!!}}}[;)] The church on 460W loans me a room, so they'd have to approve the meet. And there's wireless Internet, too. And I can plug into a digital projector if needed. Up the road at Southpark Mall there're plenty of eateries. Let's discuss.
Use the first letter of the following for my offline address: Mike Sierra Bravo Tango at Sierra Oscar Tango Lima dot Oscar Romeo Golf.
BTW: Just because I "might" host it doesn't mean that I'll direct the meeting. You guys can figure out how to do that.
God bless
{charley}.
Sir,
See some military background here.
I am interested. "C.G." Miller in Virginia Beach. I might be able to host at my church. My apologetics group meets on alternating Saturday nights. We are a little old fashion but we plan to buy a couple of projectors soon. I believe we have one availlable now. I would be willing to drive but Richmond is a little far unless we planned a long meeting less often like 4 hours on one Saturday a month. I am a long time user but not an especially technical one.
I will be waiting until Monday, than consolidate a list and see what is the most convenient for the common good - possibly work out a rotation schedule as well. . .
Sorry I didn't get back to everyone yesterday, I am on leave to take care of my sick daughter (blessings of shore duty, LOL) from the looks of it, we are mostly centered around the Hampton Roads area. Would you all be opposed to rotating it around, once in the Hampton/Newport News/Williamsburg area, once in VA Beach, and once in the Petersburg/Richmond area? I was thinking maybe Saturdays, perhaps around 11ish and see how long works out best?
Has anyone attended the MP seminars? Or have the Logos 4 guide books? I am trying to think of how to get a curriculum. Worse case scenario would be to use the great videos together, and discuss ways for improved use.

I'm a couple of hours from Virginia Beach straight up 460; 85 minutes from Williamsburg coming down 60 then left at the blinking yellow lights on 106 to come up behind Hopewell; 90 minutes from Clarksville via 85 then crossover to 460; 70 minutes flying low from Smithfield on 460. (Don: yep -- 20years USN [:D] I see that David used the term "shore duty" so we know instantly his branch!). 11-ish sounds great. I'd have to figure out which 1 or 2 Saturdays I'm "free" and post the list here. The alternating plan sound great, too, as then the stress won't be on the same person all the time. I've attended both L3 and L4 seminars and have the guide books, too. All of us can plan a curriculum at our first couple or so meetings and go from there. I'm sure Don Mc. and I could astound everyone with our great wisdom and experience at doing the same in our normal calling. [H] Truth be told I'd like a chance to swap stories with Don!
{charley}
yep -- 20years USN
I knew there was something good about you! Also 20 years USN. My son has 27 years so far (NC spy listening in on VA discussion).
I have the MP Guide books for V4 but have not attended the Seminars.
Because of the travel time I suggest longer meetings less often. Saturday is fine with me. I do need to be back to VA Beach be 6PM. I moderate a discussion group with a mix of Christians and non-Christians on some Saturdays. We meet from 6 to midnight. An earlier start would be OK with me.
All,
My main classroom at Tidewater Bible COllege (TBC) is totally media enabled and I have wireless capabilities. We can project the L4 images onto a white board. I would be honored to hold any meetings at the school on appropriate Saturdays. I also have the video DVD somewhere in my office for L4. One totpic that I personally would like to discuss is use of L4 in the classroom and how to use it for research purposes. My students love the application, but I want to take the use to a new and deeper level.
Retired Navy and I have plenty of sea stories as well. Only issue I have is I am supposed to leave on 1 April and not return until 13 April. How about having the first meeting on 17 April at 1100 at TBC.
I will try to make it. My wife will be recovering from Surgery. I assume instructions will be forthcoming.
on 17 April at 1100
I'm out. That is the weekend of our state wide children's convention. The following weekend would be fine,
How about having the first meeting on 17 April at 1100 at TBC.
No matter what we do, someone always has an activity on a date that is convenient to many. [:D] I'm only available on April 3,17; May 15,29; June 12,26; July 3,17; August 14,28; September 11,25. And one of those will be grabbed up soon, and will trump the 17th if necessary.
So, it looks like that, right now, I can pull myself together to come down to play![<:o)] I did a quick search for your host and wound up in Ohio...heh. If we're all coming to play at your house, we'll need a street address, please. It'd be a tight squeeze for all of us to fit in that post box.[;)]
On 1 May I'm off to a conference that will actually address the use of L4 in the classroom. Don, you should have received the same invitation?
No matter what we do, someone always has an activity on a date
I agree, I see a trend with you dates as being the weekend around the 15th of each month. If we are interested in starting this up monthly, how would the weekend around the 15th each month sound - at least through September 11th? I would be able to make it the weekend of May 15th, June 12th, July 17th, and August 14th as it stands. I would only miss the first meeting, so any really good sea stories would need to be repeated for my benefit

Those particular weekends might work for me. I've a class of folks who meet irregularly so I know I'd miss one of those dates. All this depends, though, on the others reading this whether this idea may work for them.
Sea stories are like the waves upon the sand --- forgotten when they were uttered. heheheh.....
Some of my faculty and staff will be attending the event in Charlotte. Looking forwrd to the event.
Most excellent! Looking forward to this event with great expectations.
[edit] Are we coming to your "house" to play in April?
It looks like we may have a plan to meet once a month somewhere around the 15th of each month, rotating among the various locations..
I think everyone is agreeaable to allowing Tidewater Bible College (TBC) to host the first Southeast Virginia L4 Users Group on 17 April. Realise that some may not be able to make this, but as pointed out we can aim at havng an event somewhere around the 15th of each month and catch up those not able to make it the following month.
The TBC website is www.tidewaterbiblecollege.org where a map and address is available, but one I get email addresses for all, I will send out explicit instructions. My email address is don@tidewaterbiblecollege.org so please send me an email to allow me the ability to build a distribution list. My phone number is 757-343-5458, if you have any questions. Can we start at 10:30 AM. TBC will provide a light lunch for this first meeting.
This sounds like a great time and I look forward to seeing as many as possible at the school on 17 April.
Excellent! I've sent you an email. 10:30 allows me plenty of time to get lost finding your place.[:P]
Saturday is coming up quickly. Directions to TBC are as follows.
Coming off of I 64 at the Regent University exit and head towards Regent University on Indian River Road. Stay on Indian River. Watch out after four or five stop lights as Indian RIver bears right, while Ferrell Parkway starts up. Continue on Indian River until you reach New Hope Christian Fellowship and turn into the parking lot. Drive to the back of the church on the right side of the building and park in the backing lot. Come into the door and walk to the center if the building. After you go through the double doors, turn left and go up the stairs to the second floor. We will be meeting in the room at the top of the stairs. If you hit Lynnhaven Road, you have missed the main entrance, but just turn right on Lynnhaven and after a few blocks turn into the back entrance of the church.
Don.

Most excellent! You are making it more difficult for me to get lost by these clear directions![:D] I almost know where you are located!! See you then.
Please let me know how it turned out
The April 17, 2010 users group meeting was a great success. I was forced to leave after our lunch break..... however. The facility was perfect for the meeting. Dr. McNeeley did a great job of hosting and facilitating. There were 7 in attendance if my memory serves me. We discussed what our expectations were. made a list of potential topics for presentation. Complained a little. Praised Logos much more than we complained. Answered a few questions. And on and on....
I definitely want to see this go forward. IF you missed it, try again next time. It is worth the effort. Perhaps Dr. McNeeley will share the list of topics with us in this forum and accept ideas here.
Perhaps, we could pick one or two significant topics in advance for a meeting so we can make an extra effort to attend those that focus on our favorite topics. Obviously, we will not always stay on Topic, but that is a good thing.
Come join us to have fun, learn and share.
As C. G. Indicated, I think we had a great time. Charles Wootten has offered to hold the next meeting in May at his location. After C. G. left we discussed possible meeting agenda. Basically, we agreed to start with prayer, followed by a short 30 minute problem solving session, We would then have a time where someone would show how to accomplish some aspect of using LOGIS to solve / research an issue / topic (45 minutes). Finally, we would all work on a topic using LOGOS (45 minutes) and then discuss what we found through our research effort (another 45 minutes) , sort of a Bible study on the fly. Of course a break would be in tere somewhere.
Agenda
10:30 - Open in Prayer,
10:40 - Problem solving session
11:15 - LOGOS Usage / Training Presentation
12:00 - Break
12:30 - Bible Study
1:15 - Presentation of results
Does anyone have a topic that we could cover? I know the Dr. McDonald suggested sermon development using LOGOS. I have something on that already, so I could present that as the training session.
I am looking forward to the next session in May (15th??).
Also, David Peterson, would you send me your email so I can include you on any emails?
Here is the list of topics that might be covered in the user's group.
o How to use software better
o Drawing
o Training & sharing of skills / techniques
o Problems and resolutions
o Use of notes
o Bible study during – users group
o Projecting logos to screen
o How to integrate logos to classwork
o Maps
o Languages
o Stereographic pictures
Hope that this helps.
I just saw this thread - what a blessing (even if I saw it two days after the first meet up! I live in Virginia Beach and will plan to join you all next time.
As C. G. Indicated, I think we had a great time. Charles Wootten has offered to hold the next meeting in May at his location
no thinking! heheh.... We did have a great time. At least, on my part. It was a joy to talk with folks who have a heart for Scripture and who are different than my normal crowd.
I cannot host it on 15 May. The remote site that I teach at once every 90 days called to let me know that the maximum number of folks can show up for class on 15 May. This I cannot cancel. I'm sorry. Had it been anything else, the L4 in this neck of the woods would have had priority.
As far as I know my next two openings are 12 June and 14 August. (I'm not sure about July. Even though I have a 3 July class scheduled the students may want to move it to the 10th claiming holidays take precedence over anything. No matter what I do I won't be able to convince them the 4th is the following day. Weird, but true. Aren't holidays annoying interruptions? heheheh....Fortunately we only observe six!)
I do want to keep being involved.
Dr. McNeeley, please contact me at my junk email address. phillphan (at) live.com and I will provide you my everyday email.
Since we are unable to Dr. Wooten is unable to host May 15th, would you be able to do the duties again?
Wow,
It has been three weeks already since we met for the initial meeting. Time has really flown and I know that we have all been busy, hence the lateness of this email. I know that we had discussed having the next meeting on 15 May, but several of us just cannot make that date. Therefore I propose that we delay the next Tidewater LOGOS users group to 22 M ay. Again, I would like to offer the use of the TBC facilities to host the event.
If that is acceptable, I propose that we meet at 10:00 AM to TBC and have the following agenda.
10:00 - Open in Prayer,
10:10 - Problem solving session
11:00 - LOGOS Usage / Training Presentation (using LOGOS to develop a sermon: Don McNeeley)
11:45 - Break
12:15 - Bible Study (this is where we all use LOGOS on a specific subject, scripture, concept, etc.)
1:15 - Presentation and discussion of results
If you desire to have email sent to you, please send me your email address to don@cbrgroup.org and I will add it to my distribution list.
If you have not attended for any reason, I encourage you to join us. This is a great group with a lot of experience with Logos. If you are a new user, I think you will find your questions welcome also. New users are likely to be those who receive the most useful information.
As you might expect, the days some can attend, others cannot. I have a minor surgical procedure on the 19th, and while I expect to be moving around by then, my church has a major men's event that day. I am heartbroken. I may be able to slip away for the Bible Study section. I wish you all the best.
