Just spotted this on sale. Not in the monthly sale and not advertised on the home page. Others may have missed too.

I had the hardcover books. The pictures were really good.
How are the pictures in the digitized version?
Thanks for pointing that out. I have been waiting for a deal on this set forever and would have missed it! Downloading now

The pictures are very good, clear, and may be easily exported.
This a great resource at a great price.
Are the pictures indexed properly?
Can you clarify what you mean? The pictures appear in the correct places.
Other than the pictures this is what Carson says about this set:
"The Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary is a four-volume work edited by Clinton E. Arnold (2002, £23.99 per vol., £95.99 for the set/$39.99 per vol., $159.99 for the set). It is sometimes worth skimming in conjunction with commentaries on the text at hand, but the best of the major commentaries usually include all the relevant background materials anyway. To use this four-volume set by itself is unwise: it might encourage the unwary reader to think that the background is the foreground, with the result that what the text actually says quietly dissolves from view."
Sorry, the mobile app doesn't give me the footnotes, but you can read it in his Commentary Survey book.

I see the volumes are all available individually which I don't believe they were before

Wonder how long this sale will last?
From the Old Testament Survey Commentary, "This wonderful resource (for reasons of disclosure, I should mention that I did Proverbs) speaks exclusively about the cultural background of the various Old Testament books. Beautifully illustrated, the commentary comes in five volumes. The contributors are experts in the Old Testament and the ancient Near East and are all evangelicals."Tremper Longman III, Old Testament Commentary Survey, Fifth Edition. (Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Academic, 2013), 17.
I have this set and have found it useful at times in conjunction with the ivp background but as mentioned earlier I'd never use it alone
Some of you may not be as lucky as I am: if sold separately my price would be 71 and change. Bu thanks to Logos, I get the exclusive price of 159.99!
Could you put up a sample for us to look at? Thanks.
What a deal!
Total value if sold separately: $89.95

Purchase the titles you don't have individually. There's only a $2 difference between buying them separately versus the bundle.
Here's a brief screenshot showing both OT and NT volumes:
Uh? What are you talking about?

Presumably he owns either the OT or NT set, and being a Zondervan title this doesn't have Dynamic pricing. However you buy the books (OT/NT/Complete/Individual), it's all on offer so nobody is missing out too much, provided they check the prices before buying any bundles. But yes, it does look a bit silly.
Can anyone tell me how this compares to the IVP Background commentaries?
EDIT: found a previous discussion here: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/48577.aspx - still interested to hear new thoughts on it, though.
For those who need to purchase the OT/NT set separately, the links are here:
ZIBBC: OT
ZIBBC: NT
I never imagined these would go on sale and bought the print copies. I am tempted to buy them here and give the print copies overseas to a missionary now. Still not sure what some are saying here regarding costs.
Just spotted this on sale.
Thanks, for pointing this out. I even have had this on my wish list and was not notified. (?)
I've been wanting this for a long time. At this price it's a no brainer.
I use the IVP Bible Background Commentary frequently and I'm hoping/trusting this one gives a bit more depth and will complement that set well. Whenever possible I like to have at least two reputable sources for a topic or area of research. (Plus I like pretty pictures.)

From what I see over at Accordance and Olivetree they have the sale only for one week so I would guess the same here at Logos.... You can buy on sale just the OT or NT sets individually. So lack of dynamic pricing is not a big deal unless you have some of the individual volumes, which i didmd;t even realize was an option till I went looking today.

Each print set is more expensive at Christianbook dot com right now, so the Logos set is the way to go at the moment.

The other sites have the sale until 29th May
I would say they are worth it for that price. Visually a very good resource with much good information - occasionally great information. However, I would only recommend this set for those who already have an extensive commentary library. If you are building your library this money would be far better spent on other sets or resources in my opinion.
I'm trying to round out my resources for Bible study. I have a fairly good collection of commentaries. (NICOT/NT, WBC, PNTC, NAC, TOTC/TNTC, NIVAC)
What would be a better used of funds. This set or getting a Bible dictionary like AYBD? I know they're 2 very different kinds of resources, but I'm on a budget and know that this set doesn't go on sale in Logos so that's why I'm considering it.
Michael in my opinion you need something like AYBD more than this set. AYBD will give you in words - and more if them - the material you are likely to find in this resource. I would also suggest the Essential IVP Reference Collection before this one (although for some reason it is not now available in Logos).
All these recommendations are great! Don't this kind of deals rarely come into Logos.😄
My mistake I couldn't see the end date on Olivetree (just it listed under "this weeks sale")... and in the Accordance page I only looked on the weekly page that listed Monday night (May 23 11:59pm ) as ending time. Going there again I was either blind (very possible, sometimes I swear i am virtually selectively dyslexic THIS MUST BE THE RIGHT READING, who cares what the word actually is) or it has been changed. I apologize if I panicked anyone.
EDIT: just not careful enough reading on my part:
* Sale prices on the products featured in this newsletter cannot be combined with other discounts. ZIBBCOT and ZIBBCNT sale prices will end on Sunday May 29, 2016 at 11:59 pm EDT. Other sale prices will end on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 11:59 pm EDT. To help our users purchase their desired packages, we offer an easy payment plan.
EDIT: If you purchase the AYBD, you should search online for a discount code.
Richard, I know you have good intentions, but Faithlife has asked us not to share coupon codes here on the Forum. You can see that under Forum Guidelines in the General Forum.
You can, however, tell folks where to find the code themselves.
Where did that code come from?
Sep 4, 2008 Logos Blog has the identical code... I am guessing it comes and goes not sure where it is most lately listed.
Well it worked and I finally own the aybd so this is a good day
Thanks!!!
I can get AYBD at a cheaper discount than the code offers. Call a good sales rep; especially if you are upgrading. It might go from $199 to $179
Wow...kinda bummed, but kinda not at the same time.
I recently snagged these resources for $4.99 a piece (some may have been $3.99) from Amazon. Sure, they are not in Logos, but hey...what can you do, right?!?

How recent did you purchase them? Amazon allows returns on digital purchases.
Good look outs, Richard, but it was more than a month ago...plus for that price...well...I think I'll swing over to the Kindle and read there, as need be, you know?!?
Bummed is right. If I would have known they would be on sale in Logos for this cheap I would have waited.
Are the pictures indexed properly? Can you clarify what you mean? The pictures appear in the correct places.
What I mean is would the pics from the commentaries appear if I do a regular search or image search with the same heading or title or subject?
Also, how good is the commentary set, apart from the pretty pictures? I have around 80% of all Logos' commentaries, would it add anything different?
Thank you
Yes, that's key. We need the pictures to be included in the results when we do a media search to prepare a PP presentation.
I found an image at random in a couple of volumes and searched for them - and they appeared in the search results
So looks positive.
Just received an email from Zondervan to say the sale lasts until 30th May. This differs from other previous posts.
I can also confirm. The images are indexed properly.

I am pretty new to Logos. I have chosen to subscribe to Logos Cloud and build my library piece by piece as resources go on sale. Would this be a good set to invest in at the current price?
If you want a detailed background commentary, you can't go wrong here. Highly recommended!
Even with a large commentary collection, this set would be an excellent addition. There is no other background resource that goes into such detail.
I didn't know images are also indexed. How do we perform an image search?
You do this in a "media search" - there are a couple shown in my screenshots above

That's a little bit subjective (my opinion). Most commentaries give you background information in their introduction and throughout the text and the information varies from commentaries to commentaries. I think the value on this one is mainly the "illustrated" part (pictures) which you kind of get in the infographics Logos offers. IVP Background offers great insight in some passages better than the illustrated version by Zondervan - but again, it lacks the pictures. If I had money to spare, I'd probably get them or may get them to review them for 30 days (hint, hint) and if I see they don't add much other than cool pictures, then I'll return them - there's always that option There's also the Bible Knowledge Background Commentary - I wonder how that fairs with Zondervan's.
