Is there a way to 100% permanently delete compiled Personal Books? There's a couple of Personal Books I compiled in Logos where I did a PDF to Word conversion, then compiled them, and all the conversions really butchered the formatting. For these handful of documents, instead of storing them in Logos Personal Books, I'd rather go back to storing them in PDF in my citation manager instead of cleaning up the formatting. I'd rather stick with "cleaner" formatted documents for Logos Personal Books.

Thanks!

Have you started by deleting the book from the PBB, then hiding the book in the library?

What I do when I no longer want a PBB is make small file called Dummy.DOCX [maybe only containing the words - 'Not currently used']

Edit the PBB by seting the name to Dummy00x where X is how many Dummy PBBs I have at the moment and using the file Dummy.DOCX.

Then the next real PBB I just edit Dummy00x to the 'real name' and link to the real file instead of Dummy.DOCX.

Have posted this before but have not gotten any feed back on it.  It replaces your current PBB with Dummy.  And then the next PBB you make just reuse Dummy.

No! There is a workaround with caveats, though.

After doing as 'bama suggests you will have a hidden book entry but it is removed from your resources folder. Now try unhiding the book. If it was uploaded (in the PBB menu) it will be re-downloaded else it will be permanently deleted.

Thanks for the info everyone! All mine are uploaded, so I guess I will need to simply hide the books and toss the Personal Book project for now. Thanks for the workaround.

It would be handy in the future to include an option for Personal Books only where one could delete the actual book files instead of just hiding them in the event one needs to (such as my issue). Generally I try to bring as much of my stuff into Logos as Personal Books, but occasionally when working with really off the wall formatting it's easier just to pop those into a citation manager than to clean everything up. I'll save Personal Books for projects I know I can more easily handle the formatting on.

Even a very poorly formatted PBB can be very useful when imported into Logos.  It can be searched.

Yes, you might want to return to the PDF that you converted to a Docx file to read it but Logos can tell you where to start reading!

David,

I hadn't thought of that! It seems a reasonable solution. Thanks for suggesting it.

True, and something I should consider before tossing them. Thanks for the info!

I'm trying to wrap my head around this procedure :-)

Replace the content of an old, no longer wanted PBB, with a Dummy.docx file and rename it to DummyXXX where XXX is the count of Dummy - no longer wanted - PBB s  [[as in Dummy000, Dummy001, Dummy002. etc]]

Then when you create a new PBB use one of the DummyXXX slots by seting it to the new real docx file and with the real name - the new one will replace the old one that has been renamed to Dummy.

It sounds complicated, but it isn't.  That is how I have been doing it.

Thanks for clarifying. I'll try procedure 1 first, and if I still have issues, I'll try procedure 2. At least it gives me something to play with. :-)

It seems now to be possible to right click on the pb in the pb book menu and delete a pb

This was always the case (I think) but it doesn't delete the PB. it deletes the PB project - which means, it deletes your ability to update the PB. AFAIK, this will not delete the PB which is a Logos resource in the library (you can delete it there by hiding the book, which will remove it from the computer's disk as well - just like for any other resource).

The complex schemes with overwriting the PB are for users that have uploaded the PB and want to destroy the data which is on Faithlife's servers (for those which wish to do so, note that this becomes impossible once you deleted the PB project in the PB tool!)

Thanks for that information.  If what you are saying is that any pbs I have deleted are not deleted, but permanently in my data folder...that is very sad.

It will delete the project from Personal Books tool + the actual compiled PB provided it was not Upload'ed (in the PB tool). In which case, you have to hide it, as it will be re-downloaded.

Thanks, Dave.  That brings a ray of hope.  I think I only used the upload button once which means the majority of pbs can be deleted since they were built, but not uploaded.

I really need help with this. I can't remove my personal books. somehow I managed to remove them from my list of personal books, but they still are in my account somehow. Can someone from FL please do something about this problem? I cant reupload dummy docx files because they arent even in my list of personal books.

Just over write the PBB.  Open the PBB. Change the name to the new resource. Add the new docx file. Remove the old docx file. Build new book.

I can't. They are deleted from my list of PPBs. I did it without internet in the car, somehow.
