After much thought, I wonder why FL wouldn't give members a 5% discount on all products? As it is now, they only give it on an upgrade when Logos 7 comes out. Ok, fair enough. And there is some features that others don't get unless they sign up. But if I got a 5% discount all the time? I could see even more value and well worth it with an increased chance of the word spreading and more people signing up.

Maybe it's just not feasible?

Because you can get more than 5% discount in other products through sales or calling a sales rep. Besides, the 5% discount on upgrades to the soon to be released L7 is one you get on top of the 10% or 15% off introductory price. So I don't understand why you would want to limit yourself to only 5% off every product. Maybe I'm missing something in your post. There are discounts on selected products that are between 15% - 40% for being a member. Some who have been members say they get 50% off the free previews they get monthly in case you want to own it. So like I said, maybe I'm missing something from your post.

Ok, might be my post but thought being members would always save an additional 5% on top of any other discounts being offered. Not just the extra 5% on the mentioned bonus to L7 upgrades.

So for instance if there is a sale on an item at 25% off, members would get 30% (25% + 5%).

So for all the people where the current change is not offering much in the way of incentive at the moment, a 5% extra discount on all purchases could make a difference.

$4000 * .05 = $200

Just in terms of $$ alone, if you plan to invest upwards of $3000 in upgrades for L7, then that would make 5% discount pay for a couple years  of LN.  Am I thinking correctly?

I refuse to let Logos charge me for beta testing their future upgrades with useless items noone wants or needs imho.

Is it me or does Logos Now seem catered to those who are literally trying to determine how many angels dance on the head of a pin and which language they are speaking etc....

Blessings,

Joshua

p.s. I am NOT trying to be amusing or lob bombs in and dart off...I really care about this product and know hard work goes into it too!

I don't know that this is fair.  It is biblical studies research software.  I would hope it allows one to go as deep as necessary.  As a teacher and seminary student, I desire this kind of depth.

I don't really understand the beta test characterisation - there is a beta process for each six-week release. Those Logos Now members who don't chose to be involved in the beta testing get access to the new features on the stable channel.

For me, many of the new features introduced through Logos Now since Logos 6.0 shipped - outlined at https://community.logos.com/forums/t/128846.aspx - have been very useful.

Features such as:

  • Speaking to God
  • New Testament Use of the Old
  • Addresses in Reported Speech
  • Psalms Explorer Dataset
  • Corresponding Notes and Highlights
  • Passage List Visual Filter
  • Concordance
  • Courses Tool
  • Multiview Resources

have been particularly helpful - while I have used many of the others as well.

Gao, did I miss something?  Are you suggesting I can get the next round of useful features geared for scientific Bible study men/women who like to dive into minutia for only $200.00?  Can it be that Logos Now is a way of buying Logos 7 cheaply - earlier?  Have I been that obtuse?  I just wish they would send some developers out to Bible studies and see how frustrating Logos is to use say at a round table discussion in which people are reading and exegeting the Bible together.

Trust me when they get to me holding the Logos copy on a Windows 10 I5 Tablet...they say "Next" or politely "We will come back to you later, Josh".
I put some time into simple layouts too...though I like to add I should not have HAD to imho.

Josh, I think you've got it all wrong.

JoshInRI:

Those who have been critical of our QC in the past have been praising us for the last 16 months for raising the bar. The six-week release cycle has actually improved, not hurt the quality of what we're shipping. You're not paying for access to beta-quality releases.

JoshInRI:

If you consider all that we've shipped in the last 16 months useless, that's your prerogative. But I'd encourage you not to speak for others. Thousands upon thousands of people disagree with you and consider the value of what they're getting to be well worth their money. I've seen numerous testimonies of how people are using new features in their daily Bible study.

JoshInRI:

It might not be just you, but a large group don't see it that way. There's a mix of specialized data and tools that might not have broad appeal and general improvements that most people will benefit from in their regular Bible study. Most people have found numerous things they're quite happy with.

I think you've also not adjusted your thinking about Logos Now. It's more than just early access to Logos 7 features and exclusive access to subscription-only features. For many who have no interest in subscription access to features and data, Logos Now will still be a worthwhile investment.

We've talked about something like this, but no immediate plans. We'll certainly keep it in mind as we explore additional ways to make Logos Now even more compelling.

Josh, I feel your pain. I'm a regular user of the software, and I'll be the first to admit that there are certainly things in desperate need of improvement. I've been planning with the team to address the core software experience after Logos 7 ships and wraps up. I'd like us to address speed/performance, integration, and general usability and give special attention to search, guides, notes, layouts, etc.

We're eager to make the basic things people do in the software faster, more intuitive, and more enjoyable.

Hallelujah!  Thank you Phil, this would be wonderful beyond words if it happened! I am so glad that you at least understand how painful some core functions can be to use because they have gotten little attention. Thank you for having notes and search on your list!

I might humbly request personal books be added. You see on the forums people are trying to use it - what is there, actually works pretty well but it is in dire need of being easier to update and sync ALL books; remove books we no longer want on a public server; make it MUCH easier to delete a personal book from all installs without all the hiding steps; better library management abilities to compile all, compile many, compile all after a date, compile all where the source document is newer than the last compile, better sorting, filtering, etc.

Thank you again Phil - great news just to know the problems are recognized!  Party!!! Party!!! Party!!! Party!!! Party!!!

Awesome!  I'm very much looking forward to this!

I have not subscribed to Logos Now.  However, I would be interested in subscribing to a more tablet friendly version of Logos 6 or 7 or whatever.

When Logos Now first came out, I subscribed immediately on a month to month basis.  After a couple of months, I decided to cancel, thinking that it wasn't a good value.  However, after canceling, I realized that I had grown accustomed to a couple of features and resources that were exclusive to Logos Now.  As soon as the yearly $89 became availalbe I subscribed, mainly to get that functionality back. In the months since, I have come to believe that the value of Logos Now has only increased with the things they have added, standing discounts, etc. In my opinion, it is now well worth the investment.

I feel this way, even though I haven't checked out any of the trial resources that come every month. I have heard that some of them are good and carry great discounts if you wish to purchase them.  If this is the case, that would truly push the value over the top. Thanks, Logos, for a job well done and for adding value to your existing users while seeking to move toward a consistent revenue stream. Blessings!

I agree Yes I like the membership approach. I think Logos Now will continue to improve like other memberships have continued to improve. Costco and Amazon Prime for example.

I have a question regarding Logos Now, concerning the content I already own, a L6 Gold Package, and the ability to use those resources in Logos Now. Is the subscription tied into my account where all the content I currently own is available as well in the Subscription? Thank you and I look forward to exploring Logos Now. Phil 1.6
