Due to the addition of LN benefits, product discounts became much more complex to calculate and display, to the point where the discounts are no longer listed separately on library/base package product pages.
When you have a bundle that can have multiple discounts, it leads to confusion and even pricing errors on the site.
Examples of discounts include:
- Bundle discounts. (Items are offered at a cheaper price when bought together, rather than separately. Inconsistently applies to most but not all collections.)
- Introductory discounts. (Limited time savings that expire in the future. Specific details often not provided on the product page.)
- Special sales. (Additional savings due to the product being included in a monthly or promotional sale.)
- LN Member savings. (Additional savings due to LN membership. Varies greatly, from 10% off of libraries, to 25% of feature sets, to some arbitrary discount on specific products and preview resources.)
- Dynamic savings. (Additional savings based on items you already own from that collection. Usually applied first, then other savings are based on the dynamic price.)
Pricing errors may take anywhere from hours to weeks to be corrected, apparently depending on the severity, and short-term duration of the sale.
In the meantime, sales may be lost, or worse, customers may get overcharged, until the error is corrected.
Some discounts are so complex, that pricing spreadsheets need to be created for people to understand and verify the nature and manner of the different discounts that they are eligible for.
Since pricing errors, lack of dynamic pricing, confusion over changing policies, and inaccurate sales information still occur, customers would really benefit from a simpler and more transparent discount scheme that sales, management, and customers could all more easily understand.
