Em dash or hyphen in NIV UK version

As the screenshot shows the Logos version of NIV2011 (anglicised) has an em dash (or it could be an en dash) in Hebrews 7:26 (also happens elsewhere) whereas the Bible Gateway version shows a hyphen (I don't have a paper copy to check which is "original")

For our purposes - printing out portions of scripture for readings in church - the hyphen would be preferable.

Why is there the discrepancy, which is "correct"?

Thanks, Graham

Maybe (but my understanding is that an em dash is used more widely in the US than in the UK hence my reference to an anglicised resource) but I would have thought that the Logos resource should match the printed one.

In Logos, it is an unspaced em dash (quite clearly in the font I use). On Bible Gateway, it is a spaced en dash (compare the shorter hyphen, above it in the name of the version).

Either form of dash is correct punctuation. The unspaced em dash is more common in the US, the spaced en dash in the UK. However, Oxford (and I) use the unspaced em dash. A hyphen in incorrect, but it is often used online for ease of typing.

I don't have a print NIV 2011, but my old Anglicised [Anglicized in Oxford spelling] NIV 1984 uses unspaced em dashes.

    Hope this helps.

    Good point - thanks.

Thanks - that caused me to check mine (1984) and it also has the unspaced em dash.

Anyone with an anglicised NIV2011 version they can check?

I found one and it has the spacing between the dash (sorry about the orientation of the picture)

Anyone from Faithlife able to comment on whether this could be changed?

    Thanks, Graham
