Bug? Memory Ran Out!
So working away and (something like ) this popped up. Actually the one that appeared had 'Logos' in it and indicated that 'Logos' was 'paused'.
I'd never seen this before.
I quit Logos and opened 'Activity Monitor' to see what was going on! It looked ok!
So I restarted Logos and it popped into the middle of the list of running applications with no problem.
Then, from the side bar of the Home Page in Logos I opened the Revised Comon Lectionary and boy is this big!...
And up popped my warning and Logos had to be Force Quit again.
Here are some logos from just after the last 'Force Quit' and before restarting the app.

Just a couple of late additions
On the stable version on my MacBook - Home Page shows at about 500MB of space - RCL layout (other items also open) moves the readout in the Activity Monitor it to 606MB
On the desktop (beta) the home page us also using about 500MB but opening my RCL layout makes the Activity Monitor read 80GB as it runs out of memory.

Did you ever enable the new search engine (with "set use new search engine to yes")? If so, does this problem stop happening if you disable it?

Mike,
In addition to enabling the new search engine, do you remember how long the app had been running before this occurred? If you were running any searches can you give some examples, and include any other repro steps?

Mike,
We can't reproduce this internally. In looking at your logs, it looks like you are running the beta version of macOS Sierra. It shows 10.12.2 instead of the stable version of 10.12.1.

Open Hone page
click on any of the Bible verse range in the Lectionary
It opens the Lectionary, Bibles, Commentaries, Cited by and Explorer
click on any of the title resources in cited by (with new search engine set to yes)
resources never populate and beach ball begin to spin
This only happens when new search engine is set to yes
OS X 10.11.6

Bradley... Yes I had the new search engine enabled. Yes it seems to stop happening when I disable it.
Philana... The effect is fairly quick.... start the the app... click on the RCL which opens a 'home page layout... and bang 10-20 secs at the most. (as noted – with the new search engine switched on)
Philana... Yes I am one of the misguided who operates a beta on beta system.
No I am not expecting much support other than from my compatriots on the forum and the subset of developers charged with anticipating future developments.
Lewis... Thanks mate. Sorry for your trouble but good to see that the problem may be honed in on.
I take it that for now the workaround is to not use the New Search Set up and the RCL together?
I wonder if other readers who use other Lectionaries might test them to see if this is resource or type specific.

I didn't replicate it in Windows 10 but memory ran high i.e. circa 700MB

Yes MJ - when I do the same here without the new search enabled the RCL (and associated layout) makes the memory used jump from about 500MB to about 700MB. Then it remains static until I do something else. With the new search enabled the memory used goes through the roof.

Mike,
We were finally able to reproduce this, it actually is using the new search engine with the Cited By Tool, the Lectionary layout happens to be one layout that automaically loads the tool.

That was a surprise to me Philana - but you are right it is there sitting at the top right hand side of my layout. I must be a left brained person?
Now, as the electrician said 'I can see which wire is giving you electric shocks; all I need to is find the switch'.
Let me know when you find the switch. :-)

I'm so grateful that bug reports don't disappear into a black hole.
It's situations like that really impress me, how people can discover the cause, and then provide a response. Thanks in general!
Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

It'll be fixed in the next beta.
Until then, the workaround is to disable the new search engine, or to change Cited By to "Sort results by resource" (on the panel menu).

As soon as I changed it to sort by Rank Logos crashed with an arithmetic overflow!

This is the same underlying problem, just a different crash message on Windows. Cited By + Sort by search rank + New search engine doesn't work in the current beta.

This is the same underlying problem
I know. I was documenting another failure mode for my own sake and maybe others!

Mark,
This should be fixed in Logos 7.3 RC 1 (7.3.0.0025)
