Every time I start the update, 4.0b, it does a "short" indexing and then downloads 214.9 mb, then starts. Any suggestions, thougths, recommendations?
Thanks, Jerry
Jerry,
It would be helpful if you uploaded your logs. Follow the instructions at: http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging and http://wiki.logos.com/Uploading_Logs.
Here's the logs . . .
Thanks again, Jerry
One more piece of info . . . I HAVE NOT imported anything as yet, didn't want to start that process until 4.0b was loading/starting smoothly.
Jerry
Another piece of info, if it helps . . . FWIW, I looked at the log and noticed the "re-attempting" to download "90 resources," all the early editions of the journal, Bibliotheca Sacra. I opened the Library and opened Bibsac 1 and 89 just to see if there are present and readable. All looks fine as far as the resource present.
Hope this helps, Jerry
I also have this issue. It is related to the Bib Sac 1-90 journals. When Logos did a big journal update, they pulled these from the servers, until they could verify that they were correct. So on one computer it does this update, but on my desktop these journals are not found in the library and the library book count shows a difference of 90 between the two computers.
On the computer that has the journals, they are readable and accessable. For me it is just a minor problem, until Logos gets this corrected on the servers.
Thanks, Kenneth . . . may be misery loves company! "In a way," it's good to know it's something not totally wiggy!
I slipped over to my laptop and opened L4.0b, and it goes through the same indexing and same downloading. I also opened the Library and opened Bibsac Vol 5 and 8, both are present and readable. I confess I don't know if that helps, but they do seem to be present it the Library. As noted, I'm hesitant to do the long awaited importing of notes and favorites, the main things which have been holding me back from using L4 for my main work.
Maybe someone will pick up on this and have that quick and dirty answer!
Thanks again,
i did the imports, notes, highlights and favorites. Did not have any problems at all. I use Logos 4 all the time.
This is a known issue with the theological journal libraries. Somewhere, I think there's a post with a solution, but I couldn't find it. I think it's caused when you've used the scan command to get resources in from Logos 3. Would that apply to both of you?
May work up courage here. Any thoughts on deleting the Library index file and letting the whole system re-index? I'm definitely into speculation here and certainly don't want to "mess things up" for future use . . .
Sorry for the memory failure, but, I "think" I did the scan thing . . . I've been using Logos since it started and all the journals as they've become available have been added, so, they were certainly part of the L3 Library with I upgraded to L4 . . . if that helps.
As noted, any thoughts on re-indexing the whole thing? Would that help?
And, as noted, the Bibsac Volumes 1-90 all show and open on both my desktop and laptop.
It's not an indexing problem, it's a downloading problem. Here's what I suggested to another user with the same problem a few weeks ago:
[quote]Let me make a guess (it is a guess, please correct me if necessary):
Now, when you load Logos, the following happens:
The problem is that d:\logos\books are OLDER files, so when you restart, Logos checks for update and re-downloads all the TLJ files again. But then on restart they're all copied from d:\logos\books again, and you're in the loop.
The solution to this (I think):
Here's the logs . . . Thanks again, Jerry
The only error I see in the posted log files is:
Warn DownloadJob BITS error 0x80190193 (context: RemoteFile): HTTP status 403: The client does not have sufficient access rights to the requested server object.
It has this error for each file it's trying to download, so it never finishes the download.
Which sounds like either a BITS service problem in Windows or a problem on Logos' side.
I think Logos will have to see this and respond with a solution.
EDIT: I see this has been discussed. Sorry if I'm repeating stuff. Let's hope Logos gets those journals fixed on their servers.
Mark,
I remember the old threads, but cannot find them.
I remember that you responded to me about the differences in file names and Bradley G. put on an announcement about the journal updates. In those earlier posts, the problem I had downloading TJL 12 and Bib Sac 1-90. I remember that Bradley said, the updates where on the server, but then posted again about pulling the first 90 journals until they checked whether they would have the upper or lower case in the file name.
Now to your questions: on the computer that I installed the journals on, I installed them into L3 and synced licenses with the server. Then used the Scan command to get them into L4. Then I had the issue of short index and then download. When Bradley got the TJL 12 on the server that fixed part of the problem. A
After that download, I went to my desktop and did the update now command. THe desktop does not have L3 on it. The TJL12 installed but not the bidSac 1-90. That creates the Library book count number difference between the two computers.
So later today, when I have more time, I will look into what you suggested and post back.
Renamed the L3 "Resources" folder. Searched for "identified.db" and found several, deleted all. Searched for "discovered.db" found none.
Restarted L4, same brief indexing and small download process.
Re-searced for "identified.db" and found none. Searched for "discovered.db" found none.
Restarted L4 with logging, which is attached.
May be time to stay with L3 "just a little longer" . . .
Much thanks, Jerry
See this post from Bradley on cause and fix for problems with Galaxie resources: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/11911.aspx. He adds a link to Dave's bug report on wiki, which includes several links to other forum threads which may contain the solution you need.
Melissa . . . thanks for the links. I read and didn't quite sort out all of what I need to do. May need more "light" for my dim understanding!

They may not apply if the problem is with permissions, which the BITS error indicates. Has anything changed since your last successful download? Is the BITS service started? To check, right-click on Computer and choose Manage. In the Computer Management window, click on Services under Services and Applications on the left side of window. Look for 'Background Intelligent Transfer Service'. What is its status?
Melissa,
I'm rebuilding the index at present . . . Services shows:
BITS - Started - Automatic (Delayed Start)

thanks for this. I did check and it indicates automatic and started for the status.
My question is: have the Bib Sac 1-90 been placed back on the server to be downloaded?
The reason that I ask this is: on my laptop I show _____ for number of books in library on my desktop that count is 90 less than the laptop number. So that leads me to believe that they are not there.
EBC downloaded just fine. On the laptop is showed 250 mb download while on the desktop 50 mb download. The difference being this 214 mb download of the journals.
I just executed "rebuild index" and restarted L4.0b and ALL IS WELL, no indexing, no download . . . don't know if this is "the" cure but it seems to be "a" cure.
Well, I was incorrect . . . opened L4.0b this morning, no indexing, but still doing the 214.9 mb download . . .
Any insights to fix this are always appreciated, Jerry
Here is a solution that worked for one of the users in the wiki posts:
I had the same problem with journal files in a continuous download loop. My temporary solution was to move the folder in 3 that had all my lbxlls files to another position and then rerun logos4 and download again. Once that is done then Logos4 is happy. However do not let Logos3 discover those files as this will start the whole process over again.

I understand this and will try it.
But, why will they not download on my other computer. I have run update now and I am told no new resources are available.
Thank you for your help . . . I've tried this and must have missed something.
You note . . . "However do not let Logos3 discover those files as this will start the whole process over again." . . . so, since I still need to use L3 if I to use my massive hyperlinked notes, this sounds like I'll have to do with these journals in L3, which I find no practical for research. I may well be misunderstanding it all, so forgive me if so.
I do know L3 has the latest Galaxie Software journal files, if that helps . . .
Melissa
We need to know if the Galaxie journals have been fixed on Logos server else this problem will continue and it serves no one to allow it to continue. Bradley indicated a while back that the journals had been pulled until a fix was available.
These must be hidden when L4 is being updated because it sees them as being newer than the L4 files! You could temporarily rename the L3 Resource folder.
Dave,
Thanks for your note . . . I've tried this, i.e., renaming the L3 Resources folder, then running L4. May have done something wrong on my end, but it was worth a shot. As noted earlier, the Bibsac Journals 1-90 show and open.

Yes, this would be the best way to fix it, otherwise these posts are going to continue on this forum until they are fixed. We don't need a work around. We need a permanent fix and it seems to me that this should be a simple fix.
Hi Melissa,
Same issue here with BibSac 1-90. Log files attached. Tried moving the L3 resource folder containing these files but that does not seem to be the problem.
The Indexer file here might be giving a clue: for each attempt to download an updated GS_BibSac file from the Logos Server the Indexer is flagging a 403 error, specifically (example):
2010-03-18 01:01:59.6800 5 Warn DownloadJob BITS error 0x80190193 (context: RemoteFile): HTTP status 403: The client does not have sufficient access rights to the requested server object.2010-03-18 01:01:59.6810 5 Warn Program The download job 'Update:4630' for update 'Resource LLS:GS_BSAC_069', downloading to 'U:\Logos4\Data\ahvpe21q.04s\UpdateManager\Resources\4630' has status 'Failed'; removing the job.
So it looks like L4 does not have free access to the BibSac 1-90 files on the server to download them, hence it sees there is a new file each time it starts, but the Logos server will not let L4 download it. Do you read these the same way ? They can be manually downloaded from the Logos ftp server it seems (currently in progress - slow download)
8473.Logos4Indexer_18Mar2010C.log
1464.Logos4_18Mar2010C.log
In addition to whatever the Logos server issue is really about, I already have these latest files manually downloaded from ftp.bible.org, at least I assume they are the same as they are dated only six days apart. There is ONE new file for BibSac71 dated March 13 2010 that is not yet available on the Logos Server. This seems to be a new issue with L4 4.0b and only BibSac1-90 seem to be involved as far as I can currently see. Best I recall is that 4.0a SR3 was not doing this (identifying the BibSac 1-90 files on the Logos server as updates).
I did successfully add my Calvin 500 files to L4 only a couple of days ago (after 4.0b downloaded and installed). [Got Calvin 500 per the CD and installed first on L3 on same system] So the Calvin 500 install would have seen updated logos4 files on the server and it successfully downloaded and indexed these. But of course Calvin 500 file updates were logos4 files and here we are dealing with what it seems to think are updated L3 format files.
As I see it, L4 is incorrectly identifying the BibSac 1-90 files on the Logos server as updates, ANDthe BibSac 1-90 files on the Logos ftp server somehow have permissions set which will allow manual download but will not allow L4 to download and process correctly.
That's a reasonable summary of the situation, except that the files on the Logos ftp server (ftp://ftp.logos.com/lbxbooks/) are for L3 and should not be used in L4 as you could start the previous loop due to different resource id's. If those ftp files are "correct" it implies that the files on the L4 server could also be correct!...
A little digging provides some more information about the error:
BG_E_HTTP_ERROR_403 0x80190193 When the server returns HTTP 403 response in any of the requests, BITS puts the job in ERROR state with this error code. HTTP 403 corresponds to “Forbidden: Access is denied." Check access permissions for the account running the job.
I start 4 Leader's Library. Takes an awful long time. Then it starts indexing and if I try to run Logos4, the whole screen suddenly goes black and clicking on the Logos 4 in the ashtray causes the icon to flash up and back again. I am then locked in that state and can't get out. What is going on?
Never had this much trouble with other software. Help!

Please start a new thread for your problem and explain:
Try to pause indexing by right clicking the L4 icon and select "Pause for 4 hours". Or use Task Manager to stop Logos4Indexer.exe. See http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging and Uploading Logs . If it continues when you start L4 again then upload the logs.
Thanks for the clarification David:
I assume then that the files on the L4 server are copies of the L3 files we can see in the L3 folder, as L4 is not trying to download new files with logos4 extensions.
About the error message: Does this means the issue is with the file permissions on the server, or something not processing correctly on my own system ?
Bradley's post that I referenced earlier indicates that they have been fixed:
"... we're publishing the latest copies of all Galaxie resources from ftp.bible.org. These files correct mismatched internal resource IDs, which could cause a download loop if the latest files were installed for LDLS3 from a TJL CD.
The maximum download size (if you own all Galaxie journals, and all your files are missing or out-of-date) is 1.35GB. Approximately 700 files are being published."
Thanks again for all the work . . .
I just started L4 for today and again the 214.9 mb download. I've attached the log for those that read these.
It would probably be best for you to contact Customer Support at 800-875-6467 for assistance.
I called Customer Service on this issue, they told me that the Bib Sac 1-90, that the updated files for L4 are not on the server and they are working on it.
So I guess the old adage will have to do, "good things come to those who wait, to those who wait patiently."
You could try following my instructions above, which isn't guaranteed to work, but has worked for some.
Failing that, turn off auto-update for the time being.
Hi Mark:
This seems to be a new problem with L4 4.0b. All was working well with 4.0a. All the GS_BSAC_001 to 090 files in my L3 resources folder are the latest ones manually downloaded from ftp.logos.com and these are the ones that are also currently in the L4 resources folder.
L4 seems to be identifying the need to download updates to these latest available L3 format files (which are not outdated) but L4 (4.0b) cannot retrieve such supposed updates from the server. It keeps trying every time it starts, or everytime you try an "Update Now". The issue is specific to these Galaxie Bibliotheca Sacra files (the ancient volumes, not the ones in the TJL libraries), with one additional problem file, GS_JBMW_10.
Customer Service have already refered this one from Level 2 to development, so we will need to be patient and await "developments"......
The earlier issue - see http://wiki.logos.com/Bug$3a_Various_issues_with_downloading_of_Galaxie_files - was connected with resource id's and "newer" versions on L3, all .lbxlls.
If the error occurs only with Galaxie files it is a problem at the server end (which it appears to be anyway!).
However, L4 has marked these files as "out of date" so it might be fixed by renaming U:\Logos4\Data\ahvpe21q.04s\UpdateManager\Updates.db.
FWIW, I renamed the "Updates.db" file and restarted L4 with NO downloading!
Thanks much, Jerry
Thanks much
I'm just glad we eventually found a workaround.
