Running 7.7 on Windows 10.

If I click on the search hint <Topic Law>, as in this screenshot:

I get this result:

I'm ***CLICKING ON A LINK THAT LOGOS ITSELF IS PRESENTING TO ME!!!*** For new users, the word "unapproachable" comes to mind. For long-time users, it's just frustrating that this situation has existed for as long as it has.

I'm sure you understand that those searches are listed under "FACTBOOK" which is found in Basic search.

I agree that it's confusing when the suggested link doesn't automatically perform the right type of search for the user.

Perhaps a solution is to only show a subset of search suggestions related to the current type of search?

It's unfortunate that the Bible Browser can easily perform a search (Verses about the topic "Law"), but not show the syntax.

Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

Or to launch the required type of search to fulfill the clicked example search.

Thanks for the reply,

Dave Hooton:

See this thread for more.

That thread is still way beyond any understanding I have about searching in Logos. I suppose searching hasn't been a priority to learn, since I spend most of my time in Mobile Ed, and the activities tend to supply the correct syntax/link.

I did notice this gem from that thread, though:

Dave Hooton:
Most users don't know/care that Bible Browser Topics come from Preaching Themes

Huh. I'm not sure I'll remember that detail tomorrow, but I would have never guessed that a topic in Factbook, and a topic in Bible Browser are based on two different datasets. I can't really say that's expected or intuitive, since the same word is used to refer to both of them.

Huh. I'm not sure I'll remember that detail tomorrow, but I would have never guessed that a topic in Factbook, and a topic in Bible Browser are based on two different datasets. I can't really say that's expected or intuitive, since the same word is used to refer to both of them.

'Topic' is an over-used term but the Search <Topic> depends on so-called Equivalent References (activated by a switch in the Search menu) to draw results from different datasets e.g. compare results from <Topic Money> and <PreachingTheme Money> and you will see that most of the <Topic> results come from Preaching Themes (its dataset).  <Thing Money> is not judged to be an 'equivalent reference' so no results come from that. But Factbook does not have the Topic Money!

Bible Browser Topics are different and no longer use Preaching Themes! For example "Prayer" gets its results from {Section <Culture Prayer>}. There is no suggested Search Topic for Prayer but <Topic Prayer> does get results! Search suggests <Culture Intercession (prayer)> but not <Culture Prayer>. However, <Culture Prayer>  gets the same results as <Topic Prayer>; being "equivalent references". But you won't get the Bible Browser results unless you change the format to {Section <Culture Prayer>} and search the specific bible.

There's nothing expected or intuitive here. Faithlife have much to do to improve searching.
