Installed ok, crashes on launch. "Logging in" then "preparing your library" then nada.
4377.logs.zip
Mine won't even fully launch before crashing.
I re-downloaded and re-installed, with the same effect. It begins to appear, then crashes entirely
Ben and Rob:
Can you try deleting the Application file from the Application folder, and re-download/install it?
Rob: Could you post logs? See my signature for the link to the thread with instructions.
Ben:
Do you have any saved layouts from a previous version or from the Windows version that might have got synched?
Can you try pulling out your layouts.db file? You don't need to delete it just pull it out to your desktop and reopen Logos4 and see if it opens fine.If it works we know something in the layout is causing an issue in the transition.
Moving the layouts file did it. Opened just fine.
Where can I find layouts.db? I'm having the same issue and I would like to know if this will fix my problem as well.
I'm not sure where exactly it lives, but I can tell you how to find it
Hit Apple+spacebar to get into Spotligh, type "layouts"
Click "show all"
It won't appear yet, so click on the + sign on that finder window, in the upper right-hand corner. (It then changes to a -, as in my screen shot.)
Navigate left along that bar, to where it says "kind is any" and click on "kind."
If "system files" appears in that list, select it, and then change the other setting to "are included", and that will show you layouts.db
If "system files" doesn't appear in that list, select "other" and go through until you see "system files", and click "ok" and then the other setting to "are included" and that will show you layouts.db

Thank you. This fixed my problem as well. Hopefully this gets fixed in the next release because I really would hate to have to go and recreate all of my layouts (yes, I know it's alpha software and I shouldn't be relying solely on it, but it is just so tempting now...).
When Internet Access Enabled (default), Layouts sync'd with Logos servers - wonder if layouts reappear after A17 upgrade ? If not, wonder if "sync now" helps.
Keep Smiling [:)]
my problem is fixed also - THANNXXS!!!
Thank you! It worked for me also!
Here is the path where I located the file:
\[UserName]\Library\Application Support\Logos4\Documents\[RandomNumber]\LayoutManager\layouts.db

I am having the same problem with A17 but I do not have the path mentioned nor a layouts.db file that I can find anywhere. Could it be hidden or something? I searched but I do not have a logos4 folder in 'Application Support'. Help.
Hi Eric
Are you looking in Application Support
Macintosh HD/Library .....
or (correctly)
username/Library
I hope this isn't teaching 'grandmother to suck eggs' but it is a mistake I have made in the past.

Thanks Mike!
I was looking in the wrong "library". I found the file, moved it to the desktop, and Logos started right up. It made a new layouts.db file right away so I guess I can just delete the old one? I need to brush up on my search settings.
Regards, Eric
Hey Mike,
Just curious. Why did layouts.db not show up in my finder search? I tried it again after finding it manually. For some reason items in my 'library' folder do not show up in a search of 'this mac' or 'Macintosh HD'.
Eric
It seems that Spotlight (and hence I guess Finder search) is hard wired to exclude system files.
They would be an irritation most of the time - most users are not helping develop Alpha software - we adventurers are supposed to just know :-)

Spotlight by default does not include System Files including the Library and Support folders. You can change that for individual searches, using these instructions.
Thanks Ben
now just trying to remember [;)] when next I need it.
now just trying to remember when next I need it.
On Ben's post click More just to the right of Reply and select Add this post as a favorite [sic]
(It pains me to type US spelling mistakes! [;)])
Then next time you need it just go to your personal page and it should be there – on the lefthand side under Favorite Posts. [sic] again![+o(]
Every blessing

It is sometime now since I first saw you referring to making posts 'favourites' for later reference.
Since then, I have worked out, without your help how to save them, and have done so on half a dozen occasions.
However... I have yet to work out how to view them and this is the first I have heard of a 'personal page'.
Would you be so kind as to tell me where such a thing can be found.
I hope it isn't on one of your sticks.
Where you see your name on a post you have made, all you have to do is click on your name and you're there! Simple as that! Then you'll see your favourite posts on the left under your name and picture. Click on anything you've saved and it will open for you. Just remember anyone can view your personal page and read anything on it, including comments left by other members. (To look at any other member's personal page, just click on their name on a post they have made.) However, if anyone does leave a message, you are informed by email and can view it, respond to it and delete it, if you want.
Every blessing,
Thanks Alan - and every blessing to you and yours.
Kind regards
I had the same problem but it was solved when I removed the layout.db file from the program. The program then started fine. I had to set up my layout that I was using but that was no problem for me since my I had only one layout in use and could recreate with out any big loss to me.
I had the same problem and followed your instructions to remove the layouts.db. The program then loaded fine and I just set up a new layout and saved it. Thanks for the help

How can I pull down my layouts now that I've done this? I do "synch now," but it doesn't seem to do anything at all. Isn't there supposed to be some sort of "go" button on the right side of the bar? I hit the return key, but that doesn't do anything... I also don't want to lose my layouts on my PC--will my killed layout synch back to my PC?
Russ: I'm not sure what you mean by a "Go" button. Try closing and reopening the application and clicking on the Layouts button and see if they have synched. Typically the app synchs upon launch. The only thing that will happen when you push the refresh buttons is the arrows will spin, when they are done that means it has synched (or tried). The only Go button is on the HomePage, so I'm not sure what you mean by that.
Normally next to the command line there's some sort of button that says "do this now." I can't get to my PC at the moment, so I can't find the button on another machine--but when I type in "synch now,' and hit return, it does nothing... No spinning symbol, no nothing. I kill and restart logos, and either it's synch'd my new layout (with nothing on it) to the server, or it's not synching--I can't tell which. I hope it's no synch'd my current layout back to the server, because if it has... I've lost a lot of time in setting things up, and I've lost the setup I had in that I can't remember what I actually had open and where it was opened to. :-(
I suspect (and hope) it's not synching at all, since my mac hasn't synch'd to the server in forever--any new books I've bought since I pushed logos onto my mac aren't there. But I can't ever figure out when its synch'ing or not, etc. There doesn't seem to be any indicator of the last date/time it synch'd, or what it pulled down, etc. This is, IMHO, a major omission--there should be a way to see the date and time of the last synch, as well as the results of that synch.
Russ: Right now the Mac version does not communicate any synchronization. The Windows version does not indicate what is being synchronized so if that is a feature deemed appropriate, it would be to be revisited later but the Mac team is right now working towards parity with the Windows version. This "go" button is starting to sound like the user-created, that is created by dragging a command from the command bar to the right of it. You may have done this on the windows side however, button creating is not something the Mac version does yet. If it is syncing correctly just because you go to a blank layout, or something that is not what you had created on your Windows machine it won't lose your set up on the Windows side. If you haven't received any newer books you should have, make sure you have Logos4 set to use the internet in the Program Settings. If you do then type "update resources" What version of the Alpha are you running?
Ah--okay... I didn't realize the OS/X version wasn't synchronizing layouts. That's okay, then, I can just build what I want on the mac side. I'm running the latest alpha, it upgraded while I was in class today.
The "go" button, in the windows version, is a little blue arrow that pops up inside the command box once I start typing in it. I didn't turn it on or anything--i couldn't remember what it looked like while I was sitting in class, I just knew there was an alternate to hitting the return key to execute a command.
That button doesn't show up on the OS/X version, and the enter key's not working for anything for me, apparently. I can't go to a verse, or execute a command, or open a resource with the enter key at all.
Have named some layouts in Mac Alpha and PC Beta, after naming layout on one platform, used sync now on that platform to upload named layout to logos servers, followed by sync now on other platform to download named layout.
So once we pull the Layouts.db file to the desktop and the problem is fixed what do we do with the db file? Delete it?

If you could upload the file to this thread, it may help us to figure out how to prevent such crashes in the future. After doing that, you can delete the file.
