This is in a resource I am putting into PBB- but cannot locate reference made to the TDNT, help appreciated:

"Rev. 1:17f-18a I am at the beginning of all things and at the end of all things According to Kittel and Friedrich (TDNT, vol. I, p. I) 'the first and the last' means "the Creator and the Consummator," and comes from Isa. 44:6. Spelled out in a verbal form it shows God active in Christ initiating creation and faithful to consummate whatever he initiates. So an alternate rendering for the display would be 'I am the One who initiates all things and the One who will consummate everything I have initiated'. The Alpha and Omega of 1:8 is a comparable expression. In both passages divine activity is in focus. It is the eternal, almighty God in 1:8 and Christ his Son in I: 17f18a."
