Hello Everyone

I am working on a Greek Word Study on φρονέω (Colossians 3:2). I need to include cognates and extra-biblical references. I have quite a lot of Logos Greek language resources. How might I best perform this task?

I have generated a morphological list of all 26 verses in the New Testament in which φρονέω appears. Can I shade this list and then paste it into my document in Word. I am struggling to do this.

Perhaps someone can help.

Thank you.

George

Unfortunately, copy and paste are not yet functional in L4 (though it is coming).

As for the best way to perform the task, it sounds like you've done a morph search.  But have you done a word study? (Guides>Bible Word Study)

In the Bible Word Study report type G:phronew and Logos will offer you the Greek word and then will begin to think through and build the report.

At the bottom of said report, if you have them it will offer textual searches of LXX, Philo, apostolic fathers, etc.

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Thomas

Thank you for your quick reply and your advice. I have loads of good Greek resources on Logos. Pity that I cannot copy and paste the search. That will be good when it comes.

I am going to do a word study now.

Do you have any idea when the copy / paste search will be available? Do you know when "sermon addon" will be available for Logos 4? I want to build a wikie of sermon illustrations, etc.

Thanks again.

George, I think you can do this.

I'm at work but I'll see what I can do in an hour or two...but in the mean time...this is an idea.

1.) Run the morph search

2.) show the search results in the analysis view. sort them the way you need to.

3.) Export to excel and massage the look...shade and format as necessary.

4.) Copy and paste to word.

I've done this several times.....

Glad to help George.

There is a link in my sig for missing items.  The sermon addin and the copy/paste functions are on there and should be by 2nd quarter 2010 - June at the earliest.  IMHO that date will change though.  The latest beta has many bug fixes but few feature on the list.

Of course that doesn't mean we're not about to get a slew of these features to beta test.  The programmers are working feverishly to get things done; and they're a top notch bunch.

Although you can't copy and paste the Search results, you can Export it to an Excel XML file.  From there one can copy and paste into Word.  I'm running the beta version, but I believe this is already in production and may be useful to you.

George,

If you want to find all the occurrences of φρονέω in all of your Greek resources, the easiest thing to do is:

  1. create a collection with the Greek resources you want to search.
  2. 'right' click on the word φρονέω in Col 3:2
  3. select the section entitled "Lemma  φρονέω" in the right-hand column, if it's not already selected.
  4. in the left-hand column, click on "Morph search: φρονέω" (NOT "Morph search: φρονέω@VPAM2P"). This will open a new tab with the morph search.
  5. once the morph-search tab is open, click on the resource heading to open the drop-down menu.
  6. click on your collection of Greek texts.

See the screen shots below.

Exporting and printing verse lists is a feature that should come out this quarter, but it's not yet available.

Hope this helps.

Hi Everyone

Thank you for your very helpful advice. I am making progress!!! Some of Logos' Greek resources - e.g. Robertson's Grammar - are excellent.

Robert

Thanks for your help. I have made my own morphological list of all the NT references including the verses. I did it by working through the NA27 and copying and pasting. It didn't take too long.

Thank you.

George
