I've only been reading christian books for 4 or 5 years and the ones I've read so far have been mainly ones produced in the last 100 years. I've the last month or so I've expanded this a little but I have no real idea of where to start looking at older books. I've gone through pilgrims progress and I'm now really enjoying Calvin's institutes. I was wondering if there is a book which surveys the classics which could guide me, or perhaps someone here could suggest a reading list on-line.

Not quite what you are looking for, but a book I did read cover-to-cover:

Gibson, Dan, Jordan Green, and John Pattison. Besides the Bible: 100 Books That Have, Should, or Will Create Christian Culture. InterVarsity Press, 2010.

I have picked up a number of recommendations from this book.

The Great Books Reader by John Mark Reynolds would be a good one to work through. It'll include all the Christian classics across the last two thousand years, along with a multitude from the Western Canon too.

Edit: Found it here:

I have it in Logos so its somewhere on the website. The Great Books of the Western World set, which is also available in Logos, would be a phenomenal resource to have too. Its its own list of classic books.

Thanks guys. I appreciate you taking the time to get back to me. I will have a look through these suggestions. I like the idea of the great books resource but I need to pay down  a payment plan before going for this. It does look interesting though so I'll add it to my wish list :-) the great books reader looks great so I will invest in that. "Besides the bible ...". This looks great as well. Its only a few dollars on Vyrso so I'll get a copy of this and look though it as well.

Thanks again for your advice, I am taking it :-)
