Is there an Escape char for Special Characters

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is an escape char for special characters like the brackets, "()", or any other way to do the following:
I want to find all instances of a number in brackets like "(1)" and not just the number, 1. In a Systematic Theology this will most likely list all "kinds" of a "theory" as in the following sample:
"Prof. Flint distinguishes three kinds of theoretical atheism, namely, (1) dogmatic atheism, which flatly denies that there is a Divine Being; (2) sceptical atheism, which doubts the ability of the human mind to determine, whether or not there is a God; and (3) critical atheism, which maintains that there is no valid proof for the existence of God."
Berkhof, L. (1938). Systematic theology (p. 23). Grand Rapids, MI: Wm. B. Eerdmans publishing co.
My aim is to create a systematic survey to determine the Theological areas of concern in a specific congregation.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm afraid I can't think of any way to do this as we can't search on punctuation characters.
The only thing I can think of is using the find box within the resource (use Ctrl-F to get this) and searching for "(".
That will find them but will not be restricted to ones of the form (n)

Learned [match all] has no effect for finding parenthesis.

I managed to get what I want with the following query:
((1 WITHIN 200 WORDS 2) OR (2 WITHIN 200 WORDS 3) OR (3 WITHIN 200 WORDS 4) OR (4 WITHIN 200 WORDS 5) OR (5 WITHIN 200 WORDS 6) OR (6 WITHIN 200 WORDS 7) OR (7 WITHIN 200 WORDS 8) OR (8 WITHIN 200 WORDS 9)) ANDNOT <Gen-Rev>

Punctuation isn't indexed, and therefore can't be searched on.
The only way you can 'search' for punctuation is to use CTRL+F in a single resource.
