Logos 8 Glitchy Notes and Highlighting Feature
Wondering if anyone else is running into problems with notes and highlighting features. I can't highlight or edit existing highlights in Bible text.
I've also been a user of the Notes feature for years. The formatting is wacky. Can't cut and paste text within existing notes. The cursor won't land where I click... and sometimes it is blinking on the line below where I'm typing.
Notes needed an overhaul... I guess... but I really wish they had fixed all these major bugs before launching. Makes it pretty unusable for teaching when I can't add to/change/or correct text and formatting issues caused by the update.

What platform are you on?

Sorry you are experiencing these issues. Hopefully I can help identify the bug and get it fixed for you.

We are not aware of this issue. Can you explain what you mean when you say you can't highlight Bible text? What steps are you attempting that aren't working? Likewise for editing existing highlights.

Do you mean it doesn't do anything or does the wrong thing?

Alan...
I've linked to a short screen recording of the problems I'm experiencing.

Thanks... Greg

Thank you! That is extremely helpful.
I believe the issue with notes not being editable is unique to certain formatting that is present. Copying/pasting it removed that bad formatting which is what let you then edit it in the new note. I will have the team look into this and fix it.
The highlighting issue is new to me and I will be sure we track that one down. Again, your video shows me perfectly what you were describing so I appreciate that.

We have a fix for your editor issue ready for the next service release. I'm sorry about the hassle, and I appreciate the bug report & video.

This has been fixed in 8.0 SR-1.

Alan,
Here is another short video of additional problems I'm experiencing within my notes. Wondering if there are any work-around solutions.

I also can't paste from my clipboard into a note.
Really??? I can't be the only person experiencing all these glitches... am I?

Are you using Ctrl (Cmd) V to paste or trying to right-click and then paste?
The former should work, I don't think the latter does at the moment.

Hi Greg - great video
Your first point (or very nearly your first point) has been reported at https://community.logos.com/forums/t/174682.aspx . It could be worth adding your thoughts there.
I have seen your second point flagged previously but can't find the reference to it now. I think it has been acknowledged by Faithlife but I'm not sure.

The problem is that you are using Logos Notes for giving presentations. Bob considers that a "novel idea" (he told me so on the forums back around L4 or L5 when I talked about how I use Notes). You should want to go through the tedious step of exporting dozens upon dozens of Bible verses to a presentation program like PowerPoint or, better yet, Proclaim. Please adjust your usage accordingly.
On the other hand, perhaps you might consider using L3. It allows those watching your presentation to see all of your notes with ease. This thread shows some of the abilities that L3 has as a presentation tool. An advantage is that all of your students might ask you where you can get such a nifty program. Enjoy!

No, I think the point that Greg is making here is that something that worked fine for him in Logos 7 no longer works in Logos 8 and he is wanting to get those issues addressed.
It's a different issue to that you address elsewhere.

It's not all that different. He's attempting to use Logos for presentations and that, though an eminently logical step to take, is not something which FL gives any legitimate consideration. The fact that the note menu bar scales up and down when the note font size is adjusted makes that point about as succinctly yet inelegantly as is possible. I've never seen anything so preposterous, but it's what you might expect to happen if HOW THE NOTES PRESENT ON THE SCREEN is not a consideration.

Graham... it seems pasting from the clipboard into my notes is now working. Not sure why it wasn't before... or why it is now.

Does anyone know if it is possible to go back and re-load version 7? If so... will I be able to have the old notes platform... or did they change the platform on v.7 too?
I'm in the middle of teaching several classes and the changes made in version 8 have thrown my semester into a bit of a tailspin.

Greg, thanks for the great videos, and for your patience as we iron out some of these kinks. I've filed a bug for fixing panel zoom in notes tool. I agree this is a poor experience now. We're also aware of the reference linking bug, and are working on a fix. The SR-1 release this week included fixes for some of the bugs you reported previously, which I hope has improved things for you a little in the meantime.

You can still use the old notes system in Logos 8. Type set prefer notes tool to no into the Go Box to reactivate it. You can switch back by typing set prefer notes tool to yes. Consider making these commands shortcuts by dragging the command from the autocomplete dropdown in the Go Box to the shortcuts area. That'll make switching between the two systems quick and easy.

Phil... thanks for the response. I was able to create the two shortcuts as you suggested from the drop-down menu. When I type in the "set prefer notes tool to no" command and hit "return" nothing seems to have changed. I tried restarting the program. What changes should I expect to see?
Customer support just told me there is no way to reinstall version 7. Is this true???

So... the work-around is to not use the drop-down menu (the three dots at the top of the Notes window) to increase the font size.
With that toggle slide all the way to the left (smallest)... the menu bar then scales all the way down (actually smaller than normal... which is perfect). Then highlight all the text in the note and increase the "font size" in the menu bar (to the left of the "bold" button). This increases the font of the note and leaves the menu bar as small as it can be.

Instead of using the Notes Tool (accessed from the Tools menu) you should see all your Notes Documents (from Logos 7) in the Docs folder.
And creating a note will cause it to be put into one of those Notes Documents just as it used to in Logos 7.
Notes created will get automatically migrated to the new system so will be accessible there when you switch back.
