In Logos 7, we were able to edit a note's attachment points, then click "Add selection" to add a new attachment point to an existing note.

In Logos 8, it's not apparent how this can be done (in one step, if at all). The Add Anchor box only appears to accept a (bible) reference.

What I've tried:

  • Pasting a URL or L4 ref into the Add Anchor reference box -- nothing happens.
  • Selecting text, clicking Add Note, then trying to drag that note on top of the existing note that I wanted to attach it to.

Why I'm trying to do this:

My Mobile Ed notes workflow has been to create a new note for each course segment:

The direction that the new notes tool wants me to take:

Instead of "grouping" a course's notes by segment, I could tag each independent note by its Mobile Ed course and/or segment.

The only tagging downside I see here is that I'll end up with hundreds and hundreds of tags, as some courses have over one hundred segments. This presently would lead to several problems:

  • Facets apparently don't show all their entries.
  • It is tedious to scroll through a list of facets if they have many entries.
  • Filtering presently only filters by resource (name), not by facet, so there's no way to see/filter specific tags
  • Facet entries are sorted by number of notes, rather than alphabetical (Mobile Ed segment) order.

You can actually add an anchor to selected text. However, it appears that you need to have the courseware text open in its own panel and not try the text selection in the courses tool.

Also, you can type in headwords, Greek/Hebrew lemmas, Biblical People, Places, Things, etc for anchor points not just Bible references.

Thanks, David, that screenshot was useful!

Although I am highlighting a resource in its own tab, the software appears to be missing the radio buttons that would let me choose "Selected text"

That is odd. Not sure why that isn't working. My initial reaction to seeing your post was maybe there is a bug with only one word selected but that worked for me as well. I don't have that particular resource so I can't test it specifically.

I tried a different resource, as well as selecting larger blocks of text. Still no radio buttons. Am happy though that there is a way to accomplish this, once this UI bug gets fixed.

Philana, program and content scaling are both at 100%.

I'm on Windows so I wonder if this is a MacOS issue only? Just curious, does it allow you to do it in the WebApp? Obviously, that is not ideal but it could possibly help narrow down the problem.

Hmm. Just tried rebooting, but the radio buttons still don't show up on the desktop. (FYI, they do appear in the web app. Thanks for the workaround!)

I even tried note-only view like David had used, no improvement.

Hi David Petah, it's working fine for me on Mojave...10.14.1:

Aha! Changing program scaling to 90% makes the radio buttons appear. Changing it back to 100% makes them disappear.

Thank you, Levi, for helping to narrow down the cause of the bug!

Interesting. Program scaling doesn't affect if for me on 10.13.6.

I don't think it is just Program scaling.

I just tried moving the Notes Tool resource zoom slider around. The radio buttons disappear on the third mark, but not any others (below or above it).

This occurs on 100% Program Scaling.

Ditto. I happened to be on the third mark, which is apparently the only one where the radio buttons don't appear for me.

I'm not accustomed to changing the resource size, and try to leave everything at default settings. But you've identified when they disappear (as well as providing a desktop workaround until this issue gets fixed).

Thanks again, Levi!

I've filed a bug report for this, thanks for letting us know.
