I have to admit that I upgraded without thinking:-( Need to work on a sermon and spend time trying to figure out how to use the new Logos instead:-) Maybe you will be able to help me, guys.

In the 7 that I was using so far, I used to have the following split of the screen:

Left side: all resources related to my search (commentaries, dictionaries, etc, etc)

Middle: Bible in english and original language

Right: reference to the dictionary if I click on a specific word

It was a great workflow for me. I start with the word by word analysis, click on a word and them go to lemma and study the word. As I click on a word, it will also open up a dictionary with the reference and meaning. How to do it in Logos 8?

Did you save a layout of that in v7? If so click on the layouts button (top third from the right). You may have to scroll down to find it. You may can find it if you did not save it also.

Click on the layout icon as shown in the screenshot. You should have a history of what you have opened in the past as well as a few default layouts L8 provides. You should find your layout as a snapshot.

If that works, then post back and so we can save the layout for future use.

Aleksander Dylikowski:

Go back to the layout icon and click where it says "save as named layout" and type a name.

It will then be available when you click on the layout icon on the left side with saved layouts.

Also, you may want to go to tools/program settings and set L8 to open other than to the homepage.

Lastly, go to your library and type "quickstart  and you should see QuickStart Videos for Logos 8. Open those and go through them as they will be helpful.

Yes of course whats the problem?

SO it took me a lot of time to build the layout I want and the one I had on Logos 7. Now that I have it saved, I would love to be always use it as the default one. But it is not the case. Each time I type something into the search box, like Philippians 2:1-4 it will not open all resources in the layout I want, but in a totally different one. So how can I make the one I create a default one?

I want to have the following working flow:

1. Start Logos

2. Type passage into the search box (e.g. Romans 1:2-8) and click GO

3. My preferred layout is used to open all resources accordingly to what I search (Romans 1:2-8)

Attached is the layout I want to use.

Click "Tools" Scroll Down to Utilities Click it. Click on Program settings. The top item in this menu will allow you to select your named layout. I am not sure this will do what you want but it is a step toward it.

Aleksander Dylikowski:
Type passage into the search box (e.g. Romans 1:2-8) and click GO

The behavior of the Go box has changed, as discussed in your other thread.

The passage layout no longer opens by default (but changes are coming in 8.1).

You presently have to specifically select "Open passage to Romans 1:2-8." This will open your default (or customized) passage layout.

As for customizing your passage layout, you have to replace the default Passage Study QuickStart layout with your new one. You can do this by loading your preferred layout, then clicking the down arrow next to the Passage Study QuickStart layout, and choosing "Replace with Current Layout."

That would change the default layout (so it always opens when Logos starts). That's different from choosing what opens (e.g., bible, layout, guide) when you enter something in the Go box.
