I bought the following Greek-German lexicon on pre-pub which I understood to be a 21st century edition based on the product page description which included the following: "Erscheinungsdatum: 1988 (6. Aufl. 2012)"

But the "Citation" from the "Information" panel for the 6th edition states: "Bauer, Walter. Edited by Kurt Aland and Barbara Aland. Griechisch-Deutsches Wörterbuch Zu Den Schriften Des Neuen Testaments Und Der Frühchristlichen Literatur. Berlin; New York: Walter de Gruyter, 1988."

This confusion saddens two people: my wife on this our 61st anniversary who suggested I return the book; and me, who wanted a more recent lexicon than BDAG. Spoiler alert: I'm keeping the bookSmile

Steve Maling:
"Erscheinungsdatum: 1988 (6. Aufl. 2012)"

I don't know where the product page for Bauer/Aland got the 2012 - maybe the publisher printed a new batch in 2012 from the 1988 edition, which might be indicated in a paper copy. But the 1988 edition is in fact the newest existing, it is the only one you can buy - and there is no indication of a 2012 reprint in the Amazon look-into, much less for (even a small) update such as typo-corrections. 6th edition 1988 is the current one.

Edit: I'll ask Ben in the German subforum to have a look at it. Enjoy the book nevertheless!

Have you checked the title page and actual content? The error may be in the citation metadata. Emphasize "may".

Or after seeing NBMick's post, did the publisher perhaps authorize the correction of typos in the e-book version only?

Thank you, NB and MJ.

Yes, I checked the title page right away (long before posting). As to actual content, I didn't think to look for citations of secondary literature after 1988 (I doubt if I would find any!).

Hi, this is the German Product Manager. Apologies, I must have pieced this information together the wrong way based on the information on the publisher's website. This may be a 2012 reprint, but the 1988 edition still seems to be the most current. We'll have this fixed.

Thank you, Ben! Apologies acceptedSmile

And thank you, NB, for drawing Ben into the conversation.

For those whose German is weak, like mine, Bauer/Aland can be used with benefit alongside the Logos edition of Modern Theological German Dictionary. https://www.logos.com/product/166479/modern-theological-german-dictionary Double clicking many/most of the German lemmas in Bauer/Aland will take you directing to the entry in the German dictionary.
