So support couldn't help me so he wanted me to post my question here (first time - yikes!).

I'm trying to do what I would think would be a basic search but I've failed to find anyone that can help me (or understand me - which is probably my inability to communicate).

Here's an example of what I am trying to do: take a basic word (like ציון), do a word search for it in BHS and have textual searches pop up in three languages/sources (like NASB, BHS & LXX). We tried this using the simple passage search field (near the green GO button) and in the Bible Word Study guide but to no avail. When support tried it under Bible Word Study it didn't provide textual searches (of course it does when you use an English word).

Does anyone know how to do this basic search? (I'm probably staring right through the answer and am probably not articulate enough to tell support what I need thus the quandary.)

Thank you!

EWO

Hi Eric.

Eric Oleson:
Does anyone know how to do this basic search?

Why not just do a Bible search for the term and then display the hits in multiple versions? If reverse interlinears are available, then the hit highlighting will persist across versions.

Eric Oleson:
do a word search for it in BHS and have textual searches pop up in three languages/sources (like NASB, BHS & LXX).

The "Textual Searches" section of BWS is designed to look up the key in non-Biblical material. For Hebrew, this means sectarian dead sea scroll material (if available) and also perhaps semitic inscriptions.

You could also use the multiple resource display option in your Bible to display multiple versions in parallel.

The additional resources should be filtered as well, but there's a bug we need to fix. As a workaround, just scroll in your primary resource or use the Next/Previous arrows to navigate all three resources through the results.

BWS example of ציון has two Textual searches in my Logos library:

So where are you pulling up this screen? Is it here?

If so, I'm not getting your same results when I place צִיּוֹן there.

Or are you doing it here?

Again, I'm not getting your results.

By the way, I just noticed that this forum doesn't let me cut and paste graphics when using MS Edge and had to use the Fox Pro. Do you know if Logos is going to upgrade their forum to be able to utilize such basic features on Edge?

Thanks!

Suggest using paperclip in Forum editor to attach graphic files => (your graphics did not appear for me to read)

One way to open Bible Search is right click on magnifying glass

For original language search, can use transliteration to show a list of lemma's

After clicking desired lemma, click arrow to run search

Searching lemma for "Zion" in Lexham Hebrew Bible finds 154 verses:

FYI: screen shots are from my demonstration account, which has an order total of $ 0.00 (includes free Logos 7 Fundamentals "gift" and Academics Basic)

User observation is Logos Bible Software forum software predates MS Edge by many years. Personally use "paper clip" to attach graphic files since copy and paste into forum editor for others to read did not work for me years ago.

Okay, the Lemma thing is indeed interesting. I guess searches by the Hebrew root alone (regardless of vowel pointing) is not a thing yet. (Which is okay, Logos has indeed come a long ways.)

What I'm not able to do is pull up multiple translations though. When I click "Open Bibles" I would expect all of the Open Bibles to actually pull up but they don't. All I get is BHS, whereas LXX and NASB is not coming up on my screen. What do I need to do to bring it to this next level?

By the way, thanks for the information on using the paper clip, yet something else that I get to play with... :)

Unfortunately I can't off of first base with your response. When I pull up BHS as a floating text it does not have the "Morph" bar nor the "Lemma" bar. Are you just doing a Ctrl Find and then typing in ציון?

Yea! That did it!

I'm assuming I did not get the Qumranic citations because I pointed it to 2 Sam to Zephaniah.

Thank you so much!

A number of BHS resources are deprecated => BHS and BHW => https://community.logos.com/forums/p/81118/567920.aspx#567920

WOW! What a great read!!! Thank you for the link! Now, it's time for my ignorance to shine (once again).

Deprecated = "express approval" or "depreciate." How on earth does this relate to TC Black's comment:

"We can't actually push out specific tags to you, but if enough users added the same tag, it should sync through community tagging. If you're interested in this experiment, try adding the tag "deprecated" to the following resource IDs. (Paste each resource ID into your command box, open the resource info screen, then click "add tag" and add a "deprecated" tag. I'm not giving the resource titles, because there are many similar titles and I don't want the wrong resource to get tagged incorrectly. And if you don't have all these resource IDs, don't worry.)"

And while you are at it, what is a "tag?"

Thanks!

There's another sense to it (not yet captured in the English dictionaries available in Logos): off support, discouraged to use as it has been replaced by a newer version. This of course needs to come as an official statement by Faithlife, and it has.

I own two deprecated BHS texts and one deprecated LXX.

Eric Oleson:
what is a "tag?"

A tag is a small description (such as a word) you can attach to a library resource in order to filter and manage your resources. If you want, you can share those tags with the community of Logos users. You can filter the library by using "mytag:xxxxxx" for this

Once a number of users attached the same tag to a resource, it will be shown as a communitytag. In the above example you can see that enough users associated "deprecated" to the two BHS resources for it to show for everybody, but as of now, not (yet) enough have tagged the old LXX with this tag.

Note the communitytags shown in grey above, just below the entry field for your own tags.
