This isn't directly Logos related, but does anyone know how many credit hours is considered full time in a doctoral program?
That's a somewhat tricky question to answer. It depends on the accreditation organization and USDOE standards. For SACS accreditation, it's usually 6 semester hours, with one exception: if enrolled in the thesis or dissertation phase, then 3 hours would be considered full time, and rightly so!
Some accrediting organizations require 9 semester hours at the graduate level to be considered full time.
In most all cases, 12 semester is considered full time for undergraduate work.
Hope this helps.
One regret I had was being unable to get a doctorate in Theology.
I knew about the 9 and 12 hour requirements for graduate and undergraduate work, respectively, however I've never seen anything listed anywhere for doctoral work.
I have no idea, but my PhD took me about 7 years to complete (part-time). I think it depends on University/School, but at some you only pay for a certain number of credit hours (i.e.120) and thereafter you only pay registration fees. It was a lot more work than I thought, but in the end I enjoyed it. The hardest part was not getting discouraged during the long hours of reading and writing. Completing the thesis was a lot of drudge work, and of course the Voce Viva was, in my experience, quite brutal. Are you planning to do your doctorate, and which discipline interest you at the moment?
I have been accepted into the Doctor of Educational Ministry program at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, but won't be starting officially until next year. I applied early for lower tuition and I had a chance to apply for free. It's a four-year program there, and I'm still waiting to receive the specifics on how it all works.
Congrats on getting accepted and good luck with your studies. I pray that you will be blessed through this experience. It is hard, but then it is suppose to be, but it is also very rewarding [:)]

Welcome to the program. I am done with all classwork and am in Dissertation phase for the same degree at MBTS. Email me at DThomas 15194 (no space) at MBTS dot EDU. Our Program Director Rustin Umsttadt is very helpful. Mindy Akright in the Doctoral Office will quickly become your best friend with timely answers to questions like this.
