Action Bible Logos style would be, in effect, an extension of the Biblical Event Navigator intended to add support to narrative Bible studies. It would break the narrative portions of the Bible (or the whole text if you prefer) based on the case frames associated with each verb.

Simple example:

Bible:

And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness.

The Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson Publishers, 1989), Mk 1:12.

Action Bible:

Agent

Verb

Theme

Goal

Spirit

drove

him

wilderness

Note: a grid is not necessarily the best form for the actual display - text color and style with tool tip is more likely as the actual implementation.

The goal is to break the text down into actions and emphasize the key elements of that action. This is a great help in:

  • comparing multiple accounts of the same occurrence
  • creating narrative maps/graphic organizers in standard format
  • grouping actions together into scenes and events
  • keeping the focus on what is actually in the scriptures vs. what we mentally add as logically necessary vs what we add from tradition ... those shepherds and wise men were not in the stable at the same time ...

Orthodox Bishop Hilarion Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."
