Hello everyone,

I installed Logos 8 recently and was trying to read the Bible (ESV). For some reason, all the text shows up in Greek. I have set the UI language to English. My system language is set to English. I have tried restarting the program, logging out/in, and asked Logos Support for help (they were not able to help me). I am just so confused on why all Bible text (as well as all Scripture references in commentaries) are only showing up in Greek.

(This is what it looks like when I try to read. I do not know how to make the text English. I have no idea why it's in Greek).

My guess is that you either have changed the settings on your visual filter (three circles icon) or interlinears (original language icon). Have you opened those to check?

Under visual filter menu, you will want to explore "resource." Under reverse interlinear, click options down arrow, then make sure "surface" is selected under "inline reverse interlinear"

I understand why JT suggests it could be an interlinear issue but I don't think that is the case.

Your screenshot doesn't show the inline interlinear as being selected and the text displayed is not the Greek text in the ESV at that passage either!

The square symbols after the verse number suggest, at least to me, some sort of font problem.

Please check in Program Settings and post a screenshot showing your font settings

Welcome to the forums Bradley!Smile

Unlike my two distinguished colleagues, I find no way to duplicate your result in Logos. In my view you have a very interesting glitch in your platform. I would call Customer Service and have them remote into your computer to see what is causing this special case.

Edit: Please post back with their fix. This is very interesting.

I can't duplicate it either!

Try reading his screen shot. It's English transliterated in Greek! I would guess that he has some funky font as his default.

I have been able to solve the issue! It turns out that I had to change my default resource font to "default" or "default logos 7" for the text to show up in English. Thanks for the help!

I'm still interested in how Bradley was able to generate this textual display. It appears that it has something to do with the Default Resource Font being set to Symbol. When I rendered this setting I got gobbledegook. But I'm fairly certain that this is somehow the key. What is your interpretation?

By gobbledegook, do you mean something like this?

And, if so, are you using a Mac?

I get this on my Mac, but when I select the Symbol font on Windows I get the same display as Bradley was getting.

(Or it may be I don't understand how to configure fonts probably on Mac!)

Yes to both questions. Perhaps one of our quants can weigh in and explain why the Windows preference for coherence. And how we might duplicate the display on a Mac.

I’m not really following this.

Isn’t the point that setting the default font to Symbol on either platform results in unusable results and so should be avoided?

NB Apple Symbols renders readable text on Mac. The mystery is why Symbol on Windows is rendering Greek for English. What does it do for Greek?
