Hi there,

Just wondering how to use Logos to do a search of the OT for all occurrences of a particular weak verb (e.g. 3-He verbs/1-Nun verbs etc).

Thanks for the help!

Bryn

Hi Bryn - and welcome to the forums

Bryn Weightman:

If you have the Hebrew Grammatical Construction dataset, you can search for all occurrences of weak verbs using {Section <GrammaticalConstructions Weak Verb>}. More information available in the help file at https://ref.ly/logosres/cidbdochebgram?ref=GrammaticalConstructions.weakverb

The helpfile also describes how to search for particular types using constructs such as {Section <GrammaticalConstructions I Alef Verb>}

Does this give you what you are looking for?

I agree with Graham that the answers to questions like yours are usually found in the datasets. It is a real blessing that Faithlife people have tagged everything, as the old saying goes, "six ways to Sunday" with the data sets. But where I disagree with Graham is that there is an easier & faster way to search the datasets then having to look for them in the library and read them to find the search string to plug into a search, open a search window and run a search to find your answer. The Bible Browser is a one place stop to search ALL of the datasets that are listed on the left hand menu. And all you have to do is point and click. Like Graham said, your answer to weak Hebrew verbs was found in the "Grammatical Constructions" data set. So I opened it up in the Bible Browser and first in line was Hebrew. I opened it and first in line was "Weak Verbs". How easy was that? Graham is right that the datasets are key to finding a lot of things in Logos. I would take the time to read the information in the data sets (you can populate them by typing "manual" into your library find box) and they will give you ideas and examples of what you can find in that data set.  But that is the only reason I would open them. In IMO The Bible Browser is the only tool you need to search the data sets to answer questions like yours. Morris Proctor made the point that the majority of all the questions sent in to him can be answered with the Bible Browser...and you don't have to know or hunt up  a long search string in order to use it. This is not a criticism of anyone, and especially Graham. I am grateful for all his knowledge and time he gives here to help others. He is way more knowledgeable about Logos then I am, and that's why there is a star by his nameBig Smile The Bible Browser just a different way to get to the same place.

Thanks for pointing that out
