Textual Searches Section

The Textual Searches section is a quick way to search for a lemma in a different corpora. It appears in the Bible Word Study guide.

Only hit counts are displayed. Click a link to generate full search results.^[1]

The Textual Searches provides language dependent results. Here for a Hebrew lemma we see the Hebrew Bible and the Biblical Dead Sea Scrolls corpus. For a Greek lemma, one may see Pseudepigrapha, Philo, … The section heading bar shows

• an expand/contract arrowhead
• a help function that offers a preview from the Help document
• a x to remove the section from the Guide

The details are simple links to Searches for predefined corpuses:

• a search icon
• name of the corpus
• number of results and number of units (verses) appropriate to the resources

To run the search simply click on the corpus name.

This is a simple morphology lemma search of Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia: With Werkgroep Informatica, Vrije Universiteit Morphology; Bible. O.T. Hebrew. Werkgroep Informatica, Vrije Universiteit. 2006. Logos Bible Software. Note that the search term <lemma = wivu/he/אַבְרָם> specifies WIVU rather than the lbs that has generally shown.

Again. It is a simple morphology search of the collection of resources in the series Biblical Dead Sea Scrolls (260 documents) of which this is an example: 1Q Isaiah a. 2010. Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press. Note that the search term <lemma = af/he/אברהם> specifies the Andersen-Forbes morphology.

Views in Morphology Searches

The Morphology Search in Logos presents its results in one of three formats:

• Verses
• Aligned
• Analysis

In the Verses format, the section header includes:

• An expand/contract arrowhead
• Section title
• Number of occurrences of the search argument in the number of verses selected for results in number of resources containing results

The resource header includes:

• The resource (book) cover icon
• The title of the resource both the icon and title show a preview of the information panel on mouse over.
• Number of occurrences of the search argument in the number of verses selected for results
• Much to my annoyance it does not have an expand/contract function.

The detail lines include:

• Reference which on mouse over shows a preview.
• The entire contents of the verse referenced with matches to the search argument highlighted. It has the normal preview and open resource behavior.

The Aligned view is similar to the Verses view. The difference is in how the verses are arranged. The search term matches are aligned vertically. The text of the verse is set on either side – the amount of the text determined by the available space. Again, it respects verse boundaries.

• There are more than fifty items that one may choose to display – the actual items depend on the resource and the morphology system.
• The user may select any column to use for a simple sort or for grouping entries.
