Hi when I click on the BCP 1979 Daily Office card the RCL Daily Office opens instead.

If it works this gif file is a recording of what happens when I click.

I cannot reproduce that. Have you tried removing the card and then adding it back?

It sounds to me like maybe you've customized the "Lectionary" home page layout in the Layouts menu. If you customize that, then it will open up the exact resources specified by your layout. You need to either update that layout with the desired resource, or reset the layout to default (by right clicking on it in the menu).

So if I do not customize the "Lectionary" home page layout in the Layouts menu, then my Lectionary home cards will work. If I do customize it, then they won't work; the program itself will ignore them.

Am I understanding this correctly?

If you customize the "Lectionary" home page layout, then the program will open the exact layout you specify and attempt to set the panels to view things as close to what you've clicked on as possible. Depending on the exact lectionary used in the home page card and in the customized layout, this may or may not work well.

With the default "Lectionary" layout, it will adjust to open the exact lectionary specified by the card.

Generally speaking, if you want something that adapts to different cards on the homepage, then you will want to stay with the default layout. If you want a very specific layout, then you need to set up exactly what you want to see. If you switch to a different lectionary on your homepage, then you would need to update the layout to match.

Wouldn't opening the lectionary I clicked on always be closer to showing what I've clicked on than not opening that lectionary would be?

I'm struggling to see how the best possible result when I click on Lectionary A involves not showing me Lectionary A, especially when it does involve showing me Lectionary B.

Yes, that would be the best result. However, at this time, customized layouts can not be dynamically adjusted when loaded. Therefore, if you want that behavior, you need to not customize the layout.

There are scenarios where a fixed custom layout gives what you want. If your needs do not match those scenarios, then I don't recommend customizing your layout.

I added Cards for two lectionaries and the correct one opened in a previously customized Lectionary layout with the 'default' RCL lectionary. If I removed them from the layout, they would open in a different location (next to the RCL). If I removed the default RCL, the cards would still open the correct lectionary.

That was the problem exactly. I don't remember setting up a custom lectionary, but now that I returned it to defaults it is working as expected. Thank you!

The behaviour Dave describes makes sense to me.

I took a closer look at this behavior. The way this works is that if you already have any panels open, then clicking the lectionary card will just open the specified lectionary to the right place. This will ignore the Lectionary home page layout entirely.

If you do not have any panels open, then the Lectionary home page layout will be loaded. If a custom layout was applied, then that exact layout will be loaded, and any resource panels in the layout will attempt to navigate to today's date. If using the default layout, then the desired lectionary along with a number of other panels will be opened.
