The store icon on LBS? Absolutely horrible

It is fine in the library. I like how it works there quite well. The new Factbook Facet there is great.   Thanks, Faithlife. Good job!

On the task bar, however, maybe the word "horrible" is strong; but I agree it does not belong on the task bar. Being there is duplication of function, a tacky place for marketing, and occupies essential real estate.

You are not alone in disliking it. Not by a lot!

Adding my voice to the belief the main toolbar of a users bible study workspace is not the place for a store icon.  Add it on the about menu or the user account menu. There is a store tab in the library so add it to the right click menu of the library icon.  But adding it to the main bible study workspace is secular marketing practices that don't need to be followed by FL. At the very least give users control over turning it off via programming settings.

There has been plenty of disgruntle user posts over the years about FL's overmarketing. It's time for a section in program settings that enables a user to determine whether advertising intruding into their personal bible study is appropriate or not, whether we want our bible study software to resemble our desk and library or we want it to resemble marketplace on Facebook. There should be a one setting to rule the display or not of all e-commerce and advertising throughout the program. For me this is adding to the bloatware of the software as well as being inappropriate and disrespectful to the Word and our time studying it and listening to what God has to say to us.

The camel's nose. What's next? In-resource advertisements between page breaks? (Oops, I shouldn't give them ideas...)

This is paid software, not a free-to-post message board. Please try to remember that.

The software is free. The databases to power some features and the resources bear the cost.

Yes, we all know this. Don't be so pedantic. Most of us posting here have invested plenty of money in Logos. They don't need to treat this as some ad-supported freeware. For me it hasn't gotten to the offensive stage yet, but the trajectory is concerning. Camel's nose inside the tent, inch/mile and all that.

We're considering a setting/customization option. Fun fact: this was a part of the toolbar in Libronix: https://blog.logos.com/how_to_unlock_locked_resources/.

The bifurcation of software and features is an artificial and meaningless distinction that I really wish forum MVPs would stop making. It is indeed pedantic and also completely irrelevant to this discussion.

How would you prefer we inform people that they can move from their unsupported software to the current product at no cost? The distinction may be pedantic for those with feature packages and many purchased resources, but it is not for people on minimal installations. Most of the MVP suggestions to upgrade to the current free version of the software gets appreciative feedback from the original poster. Remember that MVP's need to provide posts intelligible to the person who rarely comes to the forums and will dip in at some unknown point of a thread as well as those who are frequently on the forums.

I would prefer to not be informed of this when it's irrelevant to the discussion, which I've experienced more than once and seen others experience the same.

When it is relevant, you can simply inform them by saying a slightly modified version of what you said above: "You can move from your unsupported software to a free supported version at no cost by downloading Logos/Verbum Basic." The point of informing them of this is so that they know that what they already own can continue to be supported free of cost. So stick to the point of why you're telling them in the first place.

The point is to communicate it in a way that is relevant and meaningful for the end-user, not for the developers. The end-user experiences Logos as one integrated piece of software. Even though there are different components that make the software work, like resources, datasets, and tools, they all work together in an integrated fashion. Software does things, the "things" software "does" are typically called "features" of the software in common parlance. Even Logos/Verbum Basic comes with free and temporary access to a limited amount of resources, datasets, and tools. These all work together to make the software do "things" and thus can be called features. So even with the free version, insisting on conceptually separating features from software doesn't make much sense.

I would just encourage forum MVPs to try to think like an end-user when explaining things. It's helpful that you understand the development side and the intricacies of exactly how the software works, that's what makes you able to help the rest of us who are less knowledgeable. Just make an effort to translate all of that knowledge into language that is meaningful to the end-user's experience. And certainly try to focus on the information that's relevant to the conversation at hand.

Like idea of setting/customization option for Toolbar (not show ones that are seldom used). Icons for Docs, Guides, & Tools would be appreciated (especially when User Interface words can be longish).

Flip side of toolbar customization is Training video(s) along with awareness how to change. Like idea of all Faithlife toolbar icons being in the Tools menu (option for customer is dragging Tool to create desired shortcut: e.g. Shopping Cart)
