BUG: Courses in article order are ordered by what?

I would expect article order to be alphabetic order by title. Instead, I can't discern any sequence.

For alphabetical ordering, you would want to use the "By Resource" display mode. "Articles" operates exactly the same as "Ranked", but doesn't include the preview text.

The ranked ordering is just the same as you would find in the search panel. It's pretty much going to be a "magic" ordering based on the search engine's attempt to put more relevant results (it's definition may not match yours) closer to the top.
