Hey,

I wanna do a search only in one book of the New Testament and not the NT as a whole? The question is how many times a lemma (e.g. πατήρ pater) occurs. Does anyone know how this works?

Best wishes!

Hi, Wimi2, and welcome to the forums!

I know only of this way (not a search only in one book, but pretty close to that):

Step 1. I have opened my NA28 to the Lord's Prayer (in the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 6, where i know that the word Πάτερ appears):

Explanation of the above: 1) First i right-click the word. 2) Second i select the noun. 3) Then I select and run a Bible Word Study.

A new panel opens up (below):

4) After this you can limit the range of the search, somewhat. Unfortunately in this phase there are no selections as to individual books of the Bible, only for bigger units. After that:

5) You select, e.g. gospels (if it's Matthew, Mark, Luke or John, you're looking for).

After that:

6) Press in the middle of the translation options to get all translations of the word pater. 7) Voilà: All the passages in the book you're looking for show up!

Hope this helps!

Hi Olli-Pekka Ylisuutari,

that helps! I just found out that you can hover your mouse over the colored graphic on the top right side (e.g. in picture with your step 5 right next to the number 272). And there it says how many occurences in which book, which would be 136 in the Gospel of John, which is the exact same number you get with BibleWorks 10, so it should be correct. Just wanted to double-check

thx Olli-Pekka Ylisuutari, this helps. if you hover on the top right over the graphic next to the number 272, you get the occurences in john (136). that was what I was looking for.

Although this is posted in the web app forum, the discussion you are having suggests you are trying this on the desktop app.

If so, you can run the search directly as shown below

The helpfile shows how you can limit the search range

Sorry, mea culpa. I don't usually read the separate forums but rather the topics section. I simply didn't notice that it was posted on the "Web app" forum.

thx Olli-Pekka Ylisuutari, this helps.

I'm glad all turned out well, after all! Angel

I tried to do it in the webapp, but it didn't work so I switched to the desktop app. Your post is most helpful. Thank you!

Hi! Once again, working perhaps only on the desktop app and not necessarily on the web app (my misunderstanding in the first place, sorry!).

The following step would limit a search on the word Πάτερ to only singular (also vocative)

with the @NVSM denoting noun, vocative, singular and masculine.

Hope this helps?

Welcome Big Smile

Search suggestion using Milestone (with Bible Book Abbreviation) works in Desktop and Web Apps:

<lemma = lbs/el/πατήρ> WITHIN {Milestone <jn>}

(<lemma = lbs/el/πατήρ> INTERSECTS <LogosMorphGr ~ N?S??>)  WITHIN {Milestone <jn>}
