Question:  I just noticed a significant difference in how my laptop does a search query and how my desktop does one.  For instance, if I search the word cling (Inside or outside of quotation marks) in a collection of Luther's Works on my laptop, I get like 22 hits and if I search on my desktop I get like 700 hits - EXACT same parameters.  What I found is that my laptop doesn't register any hits on the word cling inside a Biblical quote while my desktop does.  I made sure both computers are searching the exact same collection, I've tried changing the selections in the drop down menu (Match Case, Match All Word Forms, etc.) and I've re-indexed my laptop.  How do I fix this?

Please give an example (screenshot using the paperclip icon) of what you are describing here

I know you state that you have the same collection rules on both machines. By chance do you have the same resources on both machines? I know that some only download a minimal library on their mobile devices.

a collection of Luther's Works

Hi Alan

Just out of curiosity are all of Luther's Works downloaded on both devices?

The resources  are both the same - I've double checked.

I believe the issue is on the laptop the word "cling" inside the Biblical quote isn't highlighted while the desktop cling is.  (sorry - I had to snip the desktop and put it in a word doc)  The laptop isn't catching any word "cling" inside Biblical quotes.

<IF> the "downloaded" numbers in the library match on both installations, then I believe the most likely culprit is a corrupted index. You could try the command "rebuild index." Do know that it will take a while for the index to be rebuilt. Do you have an SSD or a traditional hard drive?

SSD on both - I've rebuilt or re-indexed the laptop already and the results were the same.  Sorry for the delay in responses - I'm a bi-vocational pastor so my schedule is crazy.

Not all search parameters are visible in the tab. Do have have "Match Case" checked on your laptop? It's on the "three-dots menu".

With "Match Case" turned off:

I've tried all different  search parameters, match case, match all word forms, match equivalent references - they didn't change the results significantly.

It's possible that the indexer failed for some reason on that particular resource. I would recommend just reindexing that one resource.

  1. Make sure that logging is enabled: https://support.logos.com/hc/en-us/articles/360027869132-How-to-Enable-and-Submit-Log-Files
  2. Use the command reindex luther's works volume 1

  3. When that finishes indexing, upload the log files here

SOLUTION FOUND!  Logos support was able to come up with the answer.  For some reason, the majority of my Luther's Works library was corrupted and re-indexing my library didn't resolve the issue.  I had to remove the books, download them again, index and then the search results matched.  Unfortunately, there really is no way to tell what other books in my library may be affected.  Sad

I just realized I had attached the same image for both match case off and on. Fixed that. But now I see it's a moot point.

Glad you found the solution.

I guess you could remove them all and redownload them all to be sure. But what a pain. Sad

Perform a Basic Search of all resources for God on both computers. If they don't have exactly the same resources, try it on a Collection(s) with common resources.

That would get most. But there are plenty of books in Logos that don't contain the word "God". I have 27,870 resources, but only 26,489 contain the word "God".

(Is there a way to get a list of all my resources that don't contain the word "God"? I can't do ANDNOT God, because ANDNOT requires a left parameter. And as I recall, * isn't possible to use as the left parameter; it is so slow it would essentially hang the computer. I'm not going to try it.)

Tedious way is to search with builtin Collections. It would be a given that type:bible-commentary would contain God, but run the search and check that the number of resources found = number in the collection.

For Monographs, I tried something more adventurous to find the 11 that did not contain God

.

In Library, tag them with God. Then search for type:mono -mytag:god title:b*

If there is a mismatch compare the result titles with those in Library using the same filter. Hopefully, you have a small subset of about 150. Tag the titles in Library that do not appear in the results with NoGod and tag the rest with God.

Your next search will be type:mono -mytag:*god title:c*  ==>  mytag:*god will eliminate books you have tagged with God or NoGod

If you keep getting matches in the Search, change the filter to type:mono  -mytag:*god  title:(f*,g*,h*,i*,j*,k*), etc. to avoid tagging at each step. If you tag them with God, continue the search with type:mono  -mytag:*god  title:l*

You stop when mytag:nogod matches the number you got from the original Search on type:mono.
