L4 and Sentence Diagramming

I know that the sentence diagrammer is in beta now.  Does anyone have any knowledge as to when it will be released.  Also, I have been using L3 to diagram the book of Romans (a sort of clausal thing showing the thought logic of the paragraphs).  Does anyone know if the L4 diagrammer will import L3 diagrams?

    Yes, it does

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Thanks for the quick response.  That's great to hear.

BTW, are there any new features in the L4 diagrammer?

There is auto-shape recognition, draw the shape you want and Logos will turn your drawing into the line you want. Words can be attached to the lines you are using.

I mainly use the diagrammer for block diagrams so I don't need many of the tools in the sentence diagrammer, but it seems to be better than L3's. Also, I believe that Logos hasn't introduced all the final features into the Beta yet so there will probably be more news on this front as additional betas are released.

Thanks again for replying.  I am using L3s diagrammer for block diagrams as well.  Right now I'm doing Romans and I'm about 6 and 1/2 chapters in.  Paul is such a logical thinker.  I find it useful to block diagram his logic and to try to connect his train of thought through his epistles.

I'm looking forward to getting this into L4 and to using the new features.  I should just make the leap to beta.

To some of us tree diagrams are a great new feature.

I just switched to the beta version.  The sentence diagramming is good.  It does have several new features and I am enjoying playing around with it.

The additional printing support is really good too.

Tree diagrams are the standard sentence diagrams used in linguistics. The clausal diagrams in Logos are just tree diagrams on their side.

http://www.bibletechconference.com/media/2009/AndiWu.pdf  gives a number of useful examples for translation issues. The Logos sentence diagramer now  supports trees but I'm still fighting with it. I need grid lines to make things come out nicely. So a simple example from an old DOS program with the nominative marked just to show one way morphology can fit in [English not Hebrew because of the ancient tool]

That's interesting.  I use the clause diagrams quite a bit, particularly, Cascadia and Opentext.  I may do this some time.  Right now I'm interested in tracing Paul's logic through the book of Romans and I may try his other books too.  I've been working on this pretty hard for three days and I've finally developed a pretty good system.

Thanks for the demo.  I'll post a demo of what I'm doing shortly.  I'm putting the beta version on my laptop right now.  I really do like this sentence diagrammer a lot better.

Here is an example of the kind of charts I am working on.

The lines are representing the flow of Paul's logic.  This gets interesting as you run it all the way through the epistle.  You start to see a lot of patterns.

I like this very much. I've been wanting to do an argument map of Romans but have been a bit to busy on other projects ... perhaps by fall.

    Doug,

that's a great system...that's VERY close to my present one (without the fancy lines of course)

I'm going to give your "improved method" a shot...thanks!

Thanks for the kind words.  It's been fun developing a system that helps me understand what Paul was and wasn't saying; or who he was and wasn't saying it too.  This seems to be working for me.

I think the most important thing is that you have a system and that it works for you.  Of course, if we share what we are doing so that others benefit from it, that is great because the whole community gets a little more towards that place of unity in our understanding.

I've learned so much from all of you on the forums.  It's nice to be able to offer something in return.  Be warned though,  Paul's logic gets a little complicated at times and it requires some thought about how to hook everything up.

No kidding....but that's one reason I love his writing.

Yes me too.  I'll try to post another example tomorrow that is a little more complicated.  My intention was to post it tonight but I have found a flaw in my understanding of Paul's logic.  That's one of the great things about doing this in L4 though.  I can just load it back up and make the necessary changes without re-inventing the wheel each time.

I really am enjoying this though and I'm learning so much.

Wow!  You people are going to think I'm obsessed or something.  Maybe I am.  Once I get started on a project like this, I don't want to turn it off.  Here's a slightly more complicated example of Paul's logic:

I'm still not exactly sure what to do with verses 9 & 10.  I'm pretty sure that verse 11 connects back to verse 3 (We boast . . . not only so but we also boast . . . Not only is this so but we also boast . . .).   I think 9 & 10 would hook up where I placed them but I'm not 100% convinced.
