Feature: Sermon Import
Sermon Import
You can import existing sermons into Logos to then take advantage of Preaching Mode, automatic slide creation, and Sermon Manager planning and wider integration into Logos.
What is it?
You can upload one or many sermons, which are then imported into Sermon Manager. The sermons are automatically scanned and tagged for Bible references.
How to access it?
-
Open the Logos 10 Desktop app.
-
Click on the Tools icon (nine dot square) in the toolbar.
-
Click on Sermon Manager.
-
Click the kebab menu (three vertical dots) in the top right corner of the panel.
-
Click “Import”.
Note
-
Your files must be in .docx format.
-
This is available in Silver packages and above.

This is such a great feature

Are there future plans to support other file types? For example, a Mac user might have composed sermons in Pages and saved the documents as such. I suppose they could go back and save as a .Docx, but that could be time consuming depending on the amount needing to be converted.

I love the new feature to be able to import past sermons. Neat!
One thing I was hoping for in Sermon Builder, was to be able to use templates. I would love to be able to set up a template... then import a past sermon and apply that template to it.
But it didn't happen. Now we have to go through the imported sermons and apply formatting to each section...
If there is a way to do that now.... I've not found it. [8-|]

Is there a way that I can search my sermons?
(eg for a word/phrase that I've used).
I see that in the Passage Guide they come up under 'My Content', based on the Scripture passages referenced. But a basic search doesn't seem to have the option of including my sermons. Neither does searching for a word/phrase in Sermon Manager seem to be an option?

Try using the Other search option (at the far right of the search panel)

Brilliant, thanks!
Looks like it would take a fair bit of time to import my existing sermons. Eg there doesn't seem to be a way to point the Sermon Importer at a folder and ask it to import everything within that folder.
(For my purposes I would need to be able to point it at my Sermons folder and tell it to import everything with 'Sermon' in the filename - and ignore everything else)

I have successfully imported about 100 of my sermon manuscripts. However, I noticed that they seem to be missing random data. On several occasions, within a single sermon, verse references are inexplicably missing. Sometimes, just the title of the biblical book is missing; others, it's the verse numbers; and others, it's the entire references.
Also, I thought I heard that the formatting would be retained, but would that not include footnotes and images?

Agree! (I'm a Mac guy, using PAGES)

Are sermons synced between the desktop app on different devices?
If I get a new computer will I have to import them all again?

The answer to that is NO. Once they are uploaded they are on the Logos servers under your account. They also sync between all the devices you have registered under your account.

You can select multiple files.

I look forward to importing a couple decades of sermons.
Suggestion: In the 80's and early 90's WORD was not nearly as ubiquitous as it is now. I have hundreds of sermons in WordPerfect and Microsoft Works Word Processor formats. A batch conversion would be wonderful!

Sorry to hear you are having issues with the import Justin. If you don't mind sharing a docx file that demonstrates the missing text issues we would love to give it a look.
Unfortunately formatting will be retained only if the formatting is supported in the Sermon Builder on our end. Unfortunately footnotes aren't a thing in Sermon builder, and technically images aren't either.

Where shall I share the document? I see the same problem in most, if not all, of my imports.

Feel free to email the file directly to me at austin.bush@faithlife.com and I'll work with the development team on it.
Thanks.

If you like listening to motivational sermons check https://www.keionhenderson.com/sermons/ too. Pastor Keion is such a good speaker, especially when it comes to sermon on love. He taught me how to find my faith and apply it to my daily life. I hope more people find him and listen to his sermons.
