Bug? Is there an issue with making highlights visible in the latest Logos release?
Two recent posts:
are reporting issues where highlighting doesn't appear when first applied. But either restarting Logos or having the book open in a separate tab as well does cause the highlight to appear correctly.
They seemed similar enough to suggest that a bug has recently been introduced
Could someone from Faithlife look into this please?
Thanks, Graham

Hi Graham,
Thanks for the extra attention, we are looking into the reports.

Just to add some more detail to my post above, in case it is helpful, I am also not able to see my highlights or notes in my NIV resource in the mobile app. If I make a new highlight in the NIV in the mobile app, you can see on my PC that a new note has been created by looking at the Note tool, but the note/highlight does not appear on either the desktop or mobile version of the resource. So far, I have only noticed this happening with this one resource. If I create a highlight in other resources on my mobile device, everything works like normal.

Is the difference that the first is not downloaded while others are?
If so, it is probably similar to what I reported at https://community.logos.com/forums/t/216326.aspx

Hi Graham. Good question, but I'm not sure that it is related, at least as far as download vs. non-downloaded. The NIV resource, which was not working correctly, was downloaded on my mobile device. I've tried other resources, both downloaded and non-downloaded, on my mobile device, and they all seem to work properly. Within a few seconds of the highlight being created on these other resources, I see the highlight appear on that resource on my PC, and the highlight appears on my mobile device. This includes using the swipe method for highlighting that you described in your post. However, when I do the same thing on my downloaded NIV Bible, not only does the highlight not appear on my mobile device, but it does not appear on my PC either. However, in all cases, Notes are being created which can be seen in the Note tool. So, at least for me, it seems to be happening in this one resource, which also happens to be set as my preferred Bible and is the resource with by far the most Study Notes and Highlights.

I've just tried with the NIV - which is also downloaded to my device. Like you I don't see the highlight displayed when I swipe in the NIV to create one. I also see it created in the Notes Tool - but it is displayed in the NIV on my desktop.
Is it possible that you are creating the highlight in a particular notebook and that notebook is not enabled for display on the desktop? I doubt if that is the issue but thought it worth checking.
And to get the highlight to appear on my mobile app I need to restart the app (as you mentioned works for you in your original post)

I've tried multiple notebooks, even tried creating a brand new notebook for all new highlights, and checked to make sure those notebooks were visible, but that did not seem to work.
Since Logos customer support originally told me that the issue was due to having too many notes/highlights in my notebooks, I've now created dozens of them and divided things up among them. However, creating one new highlight or even editing an existing note in one of those notebooks causes all of my notes/highlights in all of notebooks to disappear from that resource. This still occurs even if the notebook only has a few notes/highlights.
And, yes, as it does for you, if I restart my mobile app the notes/highlights are visible until I try to edit or add to them.

I'm experiencing this same issue. Highlights don't show up in real time, only when the application (desktop) is restarted. They do however create notes as if the highlight is there but it is not until you restart the app.

Im experiencing the same problem with disappearing highlights. A real nuisance.

Temporary solution I found is opening a duplicate tab. Then everything will be fine.

This happened to me, too. I restarted logos, the highlight appeared and it hasn't happened since.

Hi Savanna,
I appreciate your team looking into this. Any update on the progress or when we might expect a fix?
As Jiuhui mentioned, I can make my highlights and notes reappear by opening a duplicate tab of the resource, but they disappear again as soon as I make a new highlight or note, so that becomes a nuisance. I also can make it work for a while by restarting Logos, as Ryland mentioned, but again that only works for a few highlights and notes before it starts happening again. I have noticed that it happens quicker if I have multiple resources open, if that helps.
Thanks for taking the time to look at this!

The problem has gotten worse in recent days. I've had to duplicate the resource over and over again. It is beginning to be a real pain. Hope it gets fixed soon.

Agreed. It's over a month since my first post about this and it's still happening for me as well.

The bug has been fixed in the beta version of the software, and will be available when version 27 is released. A post will be made to this thread at that time to let people know that it's fixed.

Thank you so much, Andrew. Is there a way that regular Joes like me can download and use the beta version? Thanks

The beta program is available to everyone and https://community.logos.com/forums/t/52967.aspx explains how to access it.
But it also includes warnings that are important to recognise. Currently, for example, there is an issue with the beta app crashing if you try to create a note in certain scenarios.
Hence the recommendation from Logos to only install on a separate machine for testing purposes.

Thanks Graham. Given that I take Notes extensively and we have a known issue of crashing with Notes, I will simply wait for a stable version to be released.

This is why we typically don't post to bug report threads to indicate a fix is in place until the fix becomes available to everyone.

I have updated to 27.0.2 but the bug is not fixed for me. Maybe it’s a different bug? When I highlight something, the highlight doesn’t show up. When i highlight another place, the first highlight immediately shows up. When I highlight the third place, the second highlight shows up…

It’s a month further on now from the last post on this - September 23rd and I still have the issue of highlights not showing on my iPad logos app version 28

remember application updates are on a 6 week cycle so a month is not even a full cycle ... and the later a bug is reported in a cycle the less likely it is to make that immediate cycle.

This discussion has been about the desktop application. The fixes reported here will have no impact on the iPad app. For information about any problem there, you will probably want to post in the Mobile App forum: https://community.logos.com/forums/172.aspx
