March Matchups 20234 - Lexham Geographic Commentaries (LGC)

Noticing the strong March Matchup voting for LGC. This seems very strange.

LGC is an excellent series, but it is taking many years to finalise, so it's surprising to me that it's attracting such strong interest when those purchasing it will only receive 3 of the 6 books in the series.

Anyone know (or willing to guess) why there's so much interest?

I was wondering the same thing about why the Lexham Research Commentaries (LRC) made it so far, which don't even have writers assigned yet for some of the volumes. I purchased some back in 2020 that were supposed to be released that year (Daniel, Ruth, Matthew), and here we are in 2024 and none of them are out yet.

From the products they included and the way they set up the tiers, it was easy to see this was going to happen. I knew the LGC, EEC and LRC would make it to round 3 before the first vote was cast. One of them is sure to end up in the final round.

I bought the LGC NT volumes last month in a library, and it provides new insights for me. I'm hoping that voting for it will raise the priority for FL to finish the series.

The last 3 volumes for LGC are in progress. The time gap shouldn't be as long before the next one as it was for Pentateuch. The 2 OT Historicals volumes are in editorial. One or both should get to final production later this year (release timing TBD). A few chapters of the last volume are still being written.

I don't think there should be product pages out for any LRC volumes that don't have authors assigned. The entire NT is assigned. Daniel and Ruth are priorities for me for this year along with a few NT volumes. Matthew is still with the author. It was included in that bundle because it was initially expected in 2020. I'm doing what I can do get the ones that have been submitted through editorial and released.

Thanks everyone for sharing your reasoning. In summary - lower cost than other options, the hope that voting for it results in an earlier release date.

And thanks for the update, Doug. I'm not too focussed on the timeline - quality is the most important thing. The series is awesome! Was really just wondering why people were voting on something that they'll then have to wait for.

Thanks Doug. Someone had written in the review section of the product page that since the two Revelation volumes of the LRC collection don‘t have individual product pages set up, that it meant they didn’t have authors assigned yet. Good to know that’s not the case.

These are Lexham Press products so is it any wonder why they are showing strong?
